Hospitality & Tourism Industry experts hold seminar at Chitkara University to celebrate World Tourism Day

Celebrating World Tourism Day, a seminar themed ‘Tourism & Jobs: A better future for all’, was organised for the students of Chitkara University, at the campus, on September 27, 2019. The event was organised by the Dept. of Tourism, Government of Punjab; in collaboration with Chitkara University, Punjab.

Eminent speakers from the field of Hospitality & Tourism were invited to interact with students. Mr. Rohit Gupta, PCS, Additional Project Director, and Mr. K L Malhotra, Forest Conservation Specialist, from Punjab Heritage Tourism Promotion Board; Ms. Swati Thakur, Mission Manager, Punjab Skill Development Mission; Mr. Himanshu Bajaj, Business Development Manager (Hotel Supply), MakeMyTrip; and Mr. Vishavajit Singh, Jyani Natural Farm; spoke about various Government Initiatives, available job opportunities & Eco-tourism.

Hon’ble Dr. Madhu Chitkara, Vice-Chancellor, Chitkara University, Punjab; spoke about the immense possibilities of entrepreneurship, employment generation and start-ups in the field of Tourism & Hospitality. Her emphasis was to encourage students to become job creators rather than job finders, and help grow the economy.

Mr. Rohit Gupta, PCS, Additional Project Director, spoke about job opportunities in the tourism sector, while Ms. Swati Thakur, Mission Manager, Punjab Skill Development Mission, shared her views on skill gaps in Tourism & Hospitality sector, and further apprised everyone on the initiatives taken by the governments to fills these gaps. Mr. K L Malhotra, Forest Conservation Specialist, Punjab Heritage & Tourism Promotion Board; spoke about the scope & extent of tourism in Punjab. Mr. Himanshu Bajaj, Business Development Manager (Hotel Supply), Make My Trip; shared interesting details about e-commerce products & services available for travellers. Next, Mr. Vishavajit Singh from Jyani Natural Farms, Fazilka; shared his views on Eco-tourism, and how travellers could be made to connect with nature.

Latest data & statistics on Tourism and its economy were shared by Mr. Ravi Kapila, Director, Chitkara College of Hospitality Management. Challenges before Tourism & Hospitality industry were addressed by Mr. Ajay Kumar Krishna, Dean, Chitkara School of Hospitality Management, Chitkara University, Himachal Pradesh; and employment opportunities for graduates in the Hospitality sector were discussed by Mr. Amit Vashishth, Principal, Chitkara School of Hospitality, Chitkara University, Punjab.
