Transfer Option

Enrol in the Joint Doctoral Program at Chitkara University with an option to spend up to 12 months at Deakin University campus in Australia, based on performance and research progression. During this program, you will collaborate with globally renowned researchers and have access to Deakin University's research labs in Australia for up to one year. Upon successful completion of the program, you will be conferred with a Ph.D degree from both Deakin University and Chitkara University.

Students who opt to stay at Chitkara University will enter in the 3rd year of  BE in Software Engineering and will take the courses in the 3rd and 4th year to successfully graduate from Chitkara University in the discipline of 4 year Software Engineering degree.

The JDP has a duration of four years, providing ample time for scholars to delve deep into their research. Additionally, the program allows students to undertake their Ph.D research across both universities in two different countries, with double the supervision, facilities, resources, and funding opportunities.
  • Global Recognition and Impact: The program empowers scholars to make a meaningful impact on a global scale. By combining the expertise of top minds from both Chitkara and Deakin, students gain access to a diverse and enriching academic environment.
  • Dual Supervision and Collaborative Research: Selected candidates in the JDP will have the unique opportunity to conduct research under the joint supervision of experts from both Chitkara University and Deakin University.
  • Access to Deakin University's Research Labs: During their doctoral journey, candidates will have the privilege of utilising Deakin University's state-of-the-art research facilities in Australia for up to one year.
  • Dual Ph.D Degree: Upon successful completion of the program, scholars will be awarded a Ph.D degree from both Deakin University and Chitkara University, enhancing their credentials and global recognition as accomplished researchers.
  • Fellowship and Financial Support: Scholars will receive financial assistance to support their research journey. They will be awarded a monthly fellowship during their residency at Chitkara University, and Deakin University will provide a fellowship equivalent to the prevailing rate of Deakin University Postgraduate Research Scholarship (DUPR) during their residency in Australia. Deakin University shall also provide a full tuition fee waiver for up to 4 years once the candidate joins the doctoral program.

Work experience

This course includes a professional experience unit, where you will be required to undertake at least 30 to 60 days of practical work experience in an engineering workplace with assessment tasks designed to develop and enhance your understanding of the engineering profession, professional practice and continuing professional development, possible career outcomes, and the opportunity to establish valuable professional networks during your degree once you move to Australia.
  • Deakin University’s software engineering course has been designed in accordance to Engineers Australia’s and the Australian Computer Society’s professional accreditation requirements. Deakin has been awarded accreditation for the Bachelor of Software Engineering (Honours) with the Australian Computer Society (ACS). Deakin's Bachelor of Software Engineering (Honours) is also provisionally accredited with Engineers Australia (EA).
  • The award conferred upon completion of undergraduate software engineering degree from Deakin University in Australia is recognised in the Australian Qualifications Framework at Level 8.

Fee Structure at Chitkara University

A student will save significantly on international tuition fee during their two years of study at Chitkara university in India. The international will only be applicable when the student transfers to Australia in the third year at Deakin University

  • Students need to pay Rs.20,000/- towards ERP /Career Advancement Services (CAS) at the time of admission.
  • Students who will continue in the 3rd Year of the program at Chitkara University will be required to pay a nominal examination fee of Rs.50,000/- for the 3rd & 4th Year respectively and will graduate with B.E degree in Software Engineering from Chitkara University.

How to Apply at Chitkara University

Candidates who fulfil the eligibility criteria, are required to fill the admission form with required documents of all particulars to be attached. The eligibility conditions for the JDP are:

  • A master's degree which includes a research project in a related area with a minimum thesis of 10,000 to 20,000 words.
  • Relevant postgraduate research experience will be taken into consideration including independently refereed journal articles, publications, or conference papers.

Transfer to Australia

You can apply for transfer to Deakin University in Australia after studying and demonstrating academic success (with a requisite CGPA of 6.5 on 10.0 scale) at Chitkara University’s B.E. in Software Engineering. You will be eligible to transfer into the third year of Bachelor of Software Engineering (Honours) degree at Deakin University, Burwood Campus in Melbourne, Australia with  prior learning credits from the first two years of your study at Chitkara University. You will apply at Deakin University in Australia for transfer into the third year of Bachelor of Software Engineering (Honours) program and based on approval of study permit from the concerned authorities and other conditions, you can graduate with a four year Bachelor of Software Engineering (Honours) Degree.
You will also be eligible to apply and receive a four years of Post Study Work Permit after successful Graduation/Completion of the program. However, apart from academic success, you have to secure a study permit from the Department of Home Affairs at the Australian High Commission in New Delhi, the only Australian Government visa granting Authority.

Additional Requirements

  • Valid IELTS Score of 6.0 Cumulative with no band less than 6.0
  • No Prior refusal of any visa for Australia
  • Meeting the GTE requirements at the time of admission to Deakin University, Australia
  • Successful completion of Class XII with Physics, Chemistry & Mathematics with a minimum 65% aggregate and 65% in English and 65% in Mathematics.
  • Have demonstrated the academic success while studying first two years of your Software Engineering at Chitkara University and secured minimum required CGPA without any re-appears
