Our 2-Year Post Basic B. Sc Nursing at Chitkara School of Health Sciences is a bridge course offered to general Nursing Diploma holders to equate them with the graduate nurses. The graduates will be prepared to assume responsibility in the primary, secondary and tertiary care of people as professional nurses.

The program will help students develop an understanding of the philosophy, objectives and responsibilities of Nursing as a profession. The purpose of the course is to orient the students to the current concepts involved in the practice of Nursing and developments in the Nursing profession, integrating the knowledge of various fields and provide a holistic care to patients and their families through the promotion of healthcare, prevention of disease spread and infection, care during illness and rehabilitation at the recovery.


Healthcare students have a wide variety of potential jobs. In addition to working in hospitals, nursing homes and other healthcare facilities, these people may work in pharmaceutical companies, health insurance companies, consulting firms and other related organisations. The demand for these positions also appears to be growing. According to the Bureau of Labor Statistics (BLS), “Employment of medical and health services managers is projected to grow 23% from 2012 to 2022, much faster than the average (14%) for all occupations.”

The main purpose of the Post Basic B. Sc Nursing is to provide an educational program through which the graduates will be prepared to assume responsibility in the primary, secondary and tertiary care of people as professional nurses. Graduates will be capable of teaching and supervising appropriate nursing and healthcare, in different settings and participate in the administration of nursing service and education. They will be able to:

  • Assess health status, identify nursing needs, plan, implement and evaluate nursing care for patients / clients that contribute to health of individuals, families and communities.
  • Demonstrate competency in techniques of nursing based on concepts and principles from selected areas of nursing, physical, biological and behavioural sciences.
  • Participate as members of health team in the promotive, preventive, curative and restorative healthcare delivery system of the country.
  • Demonstrate skills in communication and interpersonal relationship.
  • Demonstrate leadership qualities and decision-making abilities in various situations.
  • Demonstrate skills in teaching to individuals and groups in community health settings.
  • Demonstrate managerial skills in community health settings.
  • Practice ethical values in their personal and professional life.
  • Participate in research activities and utilize research findings in improving nursing practice.

  • XII passed along with certificate in General Nursing and midwifery (GNM) and registered as R.N.R.M. with the State NursesRegistration Council.
