The global population is rising but the number of healthcare workers is decreasing relatively. With more and more nurses migrating abroad, India is facing an acute shortage of faculty and clinical practitioners. This necessitates the initialisation of more and more educational institutions to meet local, national and global demand for healthcare providers. Keeping in view the World Health Organization’s (WHO) theme of ‘Working Together for Health’, Chitkara University initiated its Nursing programs to train and develop quality nursing staff to facilitate healthcare services at the grassroots, and meet the global demand.
Fortis Healthcare Limited is a leading integrated healthcare delivery service provider in India. The healthcare verticals of the company primarily comprise hospitals, diagnostics and day care specialty facilities. Currently, the company operates its healthcare delivery services in India, Dubai, Mauritius and Sri Lanka with 45 healthcare facilities (including projects under development), approximately 10,000 potential beds and 314 diagnostic centres.
Our collaboration with Fortis (Mohali) provides the necessary ‘hands-on’ clinical experience; imperative for the students pursuing this hospital-based academic program. Chitkara School of Health Sciences thus aims to create a benchmark in Nursing education in India, with an aim to prepare graduates to work as front line workers in the clinical & community field, and educational arena; training them in India as per International standards. Students are given training in developing basic skills in the laboratory, in simulated conditions, before they are exposed to the working at an actual hospital setting.
Healthcare students have a wide variety of employment opportunities. In addition to working in hospitals, nursing homes and other healthcare facilities, these people may work in pharmaceutical companies, health insurance companies, consulting firms and other related organisations. The demand for these positions also appears to be growing. According to the Bureau of Labor Statistics (BLS), “Employment of medical and health services managers is projected to grow 23% from 2012 to 2022, much faster than the average (14%) for all occupations.”
Our Healthcare Program has always enjoyed special preference of public, private, corporate & NGO recruiters on account of its excellent performance since its commencement because of the strong brand image of Chitkara University and Fortis Healthcare. We have achieved a phenomenal response from various healthcare companies for the campus recruitment. Graduates are offered placement in sectors like consultancy, diagnostics, hospital, insurance, IT, medical equipment, pharmaceuticals, NGOs and public health and clinical research laboratories.
