4-Year Bachelor of Psychology (B.Psy)

The program spans 4 years (divided into 8 semesters). Unlike non‑professional generic bachelor degrees, this is an intensive professional course requiring a total of 4,320 hours in theory and practicals, plus a minimum of 960 hours of integrated internship (accumulating to 5,280 total academic hours).

Yes, the applicant must have attained the minimum age of 17 years at the time of admission or will complete that age on or before 31 December of the year of his/her admission to the first year of the Undergraduate Allied and Health Course.

The admission process will be conducted by the State/Union Territory/University.

Foreign students must obtain an equivalence certificate from the respective State Allied and Healthcare Council.

The B.Psy curriculum has been meticulously aligned with the NEP 2020 guidelines regarding international credit systems, medium of instruction, and professional skill enhancement. However, to meet the strict healthcare delivery requirements of the NCAHP, the expert board removed the general 3‑year early exit option. To qualify as an entry‑level professional course, the Bachelor’s degree must be completed in its full 4‑year setup.

Students must have 75% attendance in theory classes and 85% attendance in skill/practical training to qualify for the final examination. No relaxation is allowed under any circumstances, including illness or indisposition.

Students will be assessed by academic staff based on their theoretical and practical performance throughout the program. Assessment forms, feedback, internship logbook, attendance, and final report must be submitted and evaluated. University examinations will be held at the end of each semester. Recommended passing marks are 50% in practical and 40% in theory, or as per NEP/university guidelines.

The learning pathway seamlessly bridges into Master’s qualifications:

• If you hold a standard 3‑Year generic bachelor’s degree in psychology, you must complete a 2‑Year Master’s program.
• If you graduate with this professional 4‑Year B.Psy degree, you are eligible for an accelerated 1‑Year Master’s program.

The B.Psy program aims to train students to understand human behaviour in its socio‑cultural context, identify mental health concerns, provide evidence‑based support, and make professional referrals. Students also learn assessment skills, ethical practice, empathetic communication, cultural competence, teamwork, community health awareness, and basic research/data analytics skills.

Allied and healthcare professionals (AHPs) includes individuals involved with the delivery of health or healthcare related services, with qualification and competence in therapeutic, diagnostic, curative, preventive and/or rehabilitative interventions. They work in multidisciplinary health teams in varied healthcare settings including doctors (physicians and specialist), nurses and public health officials to promote, protect, treat and/or manage a person’s physical, mental, social, emotional, environmental health and holistic well‑being.

The quality of medical care has improved tremendously in the last few decades due to the advances in technology, thus creating fresh challenges in the field of healthcare. It is now widely recognised that health service delivery is a team effort involving both clinicians and non‑clinicians, and is not the sole duty of physicians and nurses. Professionals that can competently handle sophisticated machinery, advanced protocols and interpret reports are now in high demand globally. In fact, diagnosis is now so dependent on technology, that allied and healthcare professionals (AHPs) are vital to diagnosis and successful management.

B.Psy graduates can work in clinical, corporate, educational, government, and community settings. Career options include counseling services, hospitals, schools, NGOs, public health programs, research, teaching, policy work, and private practice as per applicable norms. They can also pursue advanced specialisations such as Neuropsychology, Quantitative Psychology, and Developmental Psychology.
