“Travel opens your heart, broadens your mind, and fills your life with stories to tell.”

World Tourism Day 2022 is observed on 27 September globally. It is celebrated to promote tourism and understand its importance. World Tourism Day aims to make people understand the joy of exploring the world. The UNWTO General Assembly, in its third session (Torremolinos, Spain, September 1979), decided to institute World Tourism Day, commencing in the year 1980. Interestingly, the date was chosen to coincide with an important milestone in world tourism: the anniversary of the adoption of the UNWTO Statutes on 27 September 1970.

On this occasion of World Tourism Day, a Radio Talk was organized by The Office of Student Affairs, Chitkara University, Punjab, inviting three keen travelers and backpackers. These students talked of their adventures, and how one can manage budget and academics while pursuing traveling as their passion. It was a very insightful and unique conversation that brewed at Chitkara FM 107.8!

Having mentioned that, World Tourism Day is celebrated as the shift towards tourism. Not only is it recognized as a crucial pillar of development and global progress, but it is also important for humans.

We are communal creatures of the same species, yet our location determines societal actions based on cultural and governmental laws. We are so similar, yet our little worlds are so entirely different. Traveling to see places beyond our hometown is crucial to gain exposure to the world. Whether someone travels domestically or to a foreign country, it can be an experience that can be reminisced about for a lifetime.

Traveling is many experiences in one. It’s a way to learn and grow within oneself and grow with other people by learning about something or someone new. It is a way to hone organizational and time management skills.
