Chitkara School of Psychology and Counselling, in collaboration with the Department of Education, marked Women’s Equality Day with a talk titled “Gender and Us: Rights. Equality. Empowerment.” The session brought together students to explore gender equality from psychological, social and legal perspectives.
The session featured Anita Punj, IPS, Special DGP and Director of the Maharaja Ranjit Singh Punjab Police Academy, as the chief guest. She discussed the different dimensions of gender equality and addressed the factors that shape perceptions and experiences of gender in society.
The discussion also explored the distinction between biological sex and gender as a socio-cultural construct, helping students understand how social norms and expectations can influence individual experiences and opportunities.
The interactive session provided students with an opportunity to reflect on equality, rights and empowerment in contemporary society. It also highlighted the importance of awareness, respectful dialogue and informed participation in creating more equitable spaces.
A total of 280 students attended the session and engaged with the discussion on gender and equality. The program encouraged students to think critically about gender-related issues and recognise their role in promoting respect, fairness and equal opportunities in their communities.
