Chitkara College of Nursing organizes Health Mela

Chitkara College of Nursing organized a health mela at village Jhansla at Anganwadi Center No. 1 and was coordinated by Miss Kiranpreet Kaur, Lecturer, and assisted by Miss Mandeep Kaur and Miss Jaspreet Kaur, faculty of Chitkara College of Nursing, Chitkara University, Punjab.

The health mela was organized with the objective of health checkup of residents of Jhansla Village. The main aims of this initiative were:

To register the participants
To assess the health status of females, including antenatal women
To assess the nutritional status of children under-five years
To estimate the hemoglobin levels of the participants
To disseminate information on different health issues and illnesses

Permission for organizing the mela was taken from the village Sarpanch Mr. Gulzar Singh. For this health mela, various audio-visual aids were prepared by nursing student and faculty of CCN. After the registration was done separately for women and children under-five years, a health assessment of women and children was carried out.

For under-five assessment, following parameters were checked: Height, Weight, Head circumferences, Chest circumferences, Arm circumferences of the children.

In health check up of women, including Antenatal Mothers, following parameters were covered: Weight, Height, BMI, Hemoglobin, Vital Signs: BP, Temperature, Pulse.

Health education was given on the following topics: Antenatal Care, Diet during pregnancy, Immunization Schedule, Breast feeding Techniques, Obesity, Malaria and its prevention, Dengue and its prevention, Diabetes milletus, Hypertension, Anemia, ORS therapy, Malnutrition.

This program got a good response from the community of Jhansla village.
