Department of Applied Sciences, Chitkara University Punjab organised ‘National Science Day- 2020’

The National Science Day-2020 was celebrated on February 28 by the Department of Applied Sciences, Chitkara University, Punjab, in association with the National Service Scheme (NSS) and Indian Society for Technical Education (ISTE).

An introduction on ‘Sir CV Raman First Memorial Lecture Series’ was given to thrive on the value of ‘National Science Day.’ Professor Sandeep Sahijpal, Department of Physics, Panjab University, Chandigarh, was invited to deliver a talk on ‘Recent Trends in Space Sciences and Technology.’ The major impetus of the ‘Sir CV Raman Memorial Lecture’ was to explore various opportunities for students in the field of Space Sciences. Some glimpses of launching the satellite were shown, fundamental knowledge of various activities in ISRO and the evolution of life from Big Bang till now was also depicted.

Various events like Model Presentation, Fun Games, Science Quiz and a Poster Competition were also organized. The students participated in all these events with great enthusiasm. The working models prepared for the model presentation by students reflected on their innovative ideas, creativity and talents. The models, their explanation and justification for the questions posed by the judges were highly appreciated. Excellent poster presentations on various concepts of Science and Technology were displayed. Posters entitled ‘Inventions of Women Scientists, Women Empowerment and Gender Inequality’ were the highlights of the event. A Science Quiz was conducted in three rounds comprising of questions in Physics, Chemistry, Mathematics, General Science and a visual round on ‘Scientists’ was also conducted to test the knowledge level of students.

The students proved their efficiency by answering spontaneously to the questions and astonished the judges. Students of First Year from various departments had taken part in all these events and made the day a grand success.
