Gurkirat, a fifth-semester student of Computer Science and Engineering at Chitkara University, represented India at a three-week intensive program organised by the United Nations Institute for Training and Research in Geneva, which brought together participants from 14 countries.

During the initiative, Gurkirat worked on Sustainable Development Goals 4 (Quality Education) and 5 (Gender Equality) through a project titled “Pages of Future”, which focused on improving access to education and equality in remote areas of the Philippines.

As the Finance Lead for the project, Gurkirat contributed to budgeting, financial planning, and implementation efforts aimed at supporting nearly 10,000 students. The program also included visits to several international institutions in Geneva, including the United Nations offices, the World Health Organization, the International Labour Organization, CERN, and the International Committee of the Red Cross.

Dr. Madhu Chitkara, President and Co-Founder of Chitkara University, said, “Opportunities that place students in interdisciplinary environments contribute significantly to their understanding of complex social issues and collaborative problem-solving. Participation in programs such as these encourages students to approach challenges with both responsibility and perspective.”

The participation aligns with the university’s emphasis on interdisciplinary learning and student engagement with social and developmental challenges through academic and experiential opportunities.
