Chitkara University strengthens engagement with Japan through continued JETRO partnership

Chitkara University further strengthened its engagement with Japan as Dr. Cavita Taragi, Pro Vice Chancellor, Career Advancement Services and Head of Placements & Industry Partnerships, along with members of her team, met and interacted with representatives of the Japan External Trade Organization (JETRO), including Jenica Kalra, Assistant Director, JETRO.

A Government of Japan-affiliated organisation, JETRO promotes trade and investment between Japan and economies around the world. Its association with Chitkara University forms part of the University’s growing engagement with Japanese industry and institutions.

The interaction follows a Japan-focused initiative hosted at Chitkara University in August 2026 in collaboration with JETRO and the Government of Japan. It brought together a 21-member delegation representing five Japanese companies and organisations, including JETRO, to explore internship and career opportunities for Chitkara University students and discuss avenues for academic and industry collaboration between India and Japan.

The delegation was received by Dr. Sandhir Sharma, Vice Chancellor; Lt. Col. (Dr.) Rakesh Sharma, Registrar; Vineet Tuli, Pro Vice Chancellor, Global Strategy; Hazel Siromoni, Pro Vice Chancellor (Strategic Initiatives); and Dr. Kuldeep Sharma, Director, Industry Alliances, Chitkara University. Discussions during the visit focused on strengthening academic and industry ties between the two countries.

The initiative also included a session on “Japan, its Culture, Careers & Possibilities”, which saw participation from nearly 800 students, followed by individual interviews for 90 shortlisted students. Over the past two years, 50–70 Chitkara University students have travelled to Japan annually through short-term mobility programs, contributing to the University’s academic and cultural exchange with the country.

“Regular interaction with institutions and organisations in Japan helps create a better understanding of the academic and professional opportunities available to our students. It also gives the University a stronger understanding of the needs and expectations of international partners,” said Dr. Madhu Chitkara, President and Co-Founder, Chitkara University.

The continued JETRO partnership, alongside engagement with other Japanese organisations, forms part of Chitkara University‘s wider international partnerships, student mobility initiatives and industry engagement, providing students with opportunities to engage with academic and professional environments beyond India.
