Chitkara University signs MoU with LLDC Museum on National Handloom Day

On National Handloom Day, Chitkara University signed an MoU with LLDC Museum, Ajrakpur, Kutch – short for a Memorandum of Understanding. The partnership will give students of the Department of Fashion Design, Chitkara Design School, opportunities to work closely with artisan communities, learn about traditional crafts and document craft practices.

The partnership will also support the preservation and continued development of India’s living craft heritage. The MoU was signed in the presence of Dr. Madhu Chitkara, President and Co-Founder, Chitkara University.

Speaking on the occasion, Dr. Madhu Chitkara said, “India’s crafts carry generations of knowledge and skill. They give students an opportunity to learn from traditional practices, explore new ideas and build meaningful work around craft and design.”

The event also featured the National Symposium on “Handloom Heritage of India and Craftpreneurship”. Dr. Madan Meena, Raja Pratap K. and the Chitkara Designers Panel took part in discussions on craft, culture, textiles, Gen Z and the future of handloom.

The initiative connects students with India’s craft traditions and gives them opportunities to understand their place in contemporary design and enterprise. It also brings together traditional craft knowledge, design education and practical learning.

Through the MoU with the LLDC Museum and the National Symposium, Chitkara University is creating opportunities for students to engage with India’s textile and craft heritage as part of their design education.
