Chitkara University organises workshop on design and sustainable practices

The National Service Scheme (NSS) at Chitkara University organised a workshop on Paper Bag Day to introduce students to the fundamentals of design and promote awareness of sustainable alternatives to plastic.

The session covered the difference between art and design, colour theory, composition and the creative process. Students explored how art focuses on personal expression, while design is purpose-driven and centred on solving problems and communicating ideas effectively. They also learnt about the professional design workflow, from understanding a project brief and conducting research to ideation and developing visual concepts.

As part of the practical session, students designed and painted their own paper bags using patterns, messages and illustrations based on the principles discussed. The activity helped them apply their learning while engaging with paper bags as an alternative to plastic.

The workshop combined creative learning with practical engagement, giving students an opportunity to explore design while developing awareness of sustainable practices.
