Chitkara University Observes World Soil Day with Community Engagement

The National Service Scheme (NSS), Chitkara University hosted an event at the Government Senior Secondary School, Mohikhurd to commemorate World Soil Day. Themed under ‘Healthy Soil for Healthy Cities,’ the initiative focused on raising awareness about the ecological importance of soil and its role in sustaining daily life.

The students were introduced to the composition of soil, the presence of microorganisms, nutrient cycles and the importance of sustainable agricultural practices, alongside discussions on natural fertilisers and the link between soil health and environmental balance. The programme concluded with a tree plantation drive, during which 50 saplings were planted within the school premises, connecting discussion with practical action.

Through the initiative, the university extended academic engagement into the community, aligning its outreach efforts with global environmental observances.
