Global AI Leadership Dialogue

Chitkara University participated as the Academic Partner at Express AddA, hosted by The Indian Express at The Leela Palace New Delhi, on the sidelines of the AI Summit, where discussions focused on the future direction and governance of artificial intelligence.

The evening featured a conversation between Sam Altman and Anant Goenka on the accelerating development of AI, the responsibilities of industry leaders, and the frameworks shaping its oversight.

During the interactive exchange, a question from Chitkara University invited reflection on how AI developers balance a safety-first approach with the imperative to widen access for broader societal benefit. In response, Sam Altman acknowledged the inherent tension between cautious deployment and democratisation at scale, outlining OpenAI’s focus on strengthening safeguards, improving transparency, and engaging in global collaboration.

Dr. Madhu Chitkara, Pro Chancellor, Chitkara University, said, “Academic institutions must remain actively engaged in conversations around emerging technologies. Asking informed questions about safety, access and governance is part of our responsibility as educators and contributors to public discourse.”

The discussion reinforced the importance of academic institutions engaging directly with industry leaders on questions of technology governance. By participating in such forums, Chitkara University continues to contribute to informed dialogue on the responsible development and deployment of AI.
