Chitkara University hosted WECON 2026, the 9th World Engineering Conference on Contemporary Artificial Intelligence Technologies, under the theme “AI Technologies for Societal and Industrial Transformation”. Supported by the DST-sponsored Technology Enabling Centre at Chitkara University (CU-TEC), the conference brought together experts from academia, research and industry to examine emerging developments in Artificial Intelligence (AI).

The two-day conference featured over 15 expert talks by speakers from leading academic institutions, national research laboratories and technology companies. Contributors included experts from IITs, NITs, CSIR-CSIO and the Indian Institute of Tropical Meteorology.

Participants from India, the United Kingdom, Australia and Germany shared their perspectives, with HTWG Konstanz – University of Applied Sciences, Germany, serving as the international partner.

Discussions covered practical applications of AI, responsible and sustainable adoption and human-centric approaches to its use. Sessions also explored emerging trends and opportunities to apply AI and related technologies across different sectors.

Commenting on the conference, Dr. Madhu Chitkara, President and Co-Founder, Chitkara University, said, “Artificial Intelligence is creating new possibilities across research, industry and society. It is important that its development and application remain responsible, sustainable and responsive to real-world needs. Platforms such as WECON encourage meaningful exchanges between academia, researchers and industry, helping examine these developments from different perspectives.”

WECON has developed as a platform for engagement among academic institutions, researchers, industry professionals and technology leaders. The 2026 edition continued this focus by bringing together perspectives from different countries and sectors to examine the evolving role of AI in research and practice.
