On April 7, 2025, Chitkara University, Punjab, took a meaningful step toward addressing one of society’s most pressing yet often hidden issues—drug addiction. Organised by the National Service Scheme (NSS), the awareness session served as a space for thoughtful reflection, understanding, and early intervention.

The session was led by Dr. Mamta Sharma, Coordinator of NSS at Punjabi University, Patiala, and Nodal Officer of the Drug De-addiction Cell. With calm clarity and deep empathy, Dr. Mamta Sharma guided students through the subtle and dangerous journey of habit formation. She spoke of how small, often unnoticed behaviours can grow into powerful dependencies—chains that are too weak to be felt until they are too strong to be broken.

Her talk didn’t rely on fear or judgment. Instead, it delivered gentle truths, scientific insights, and real-life stories that illustrated the psychological and physiological pathways of addiction. Students listened intently, absorbing the importance of awareness, the value of early action, and the power of personal choice.

The session was not about shock or spectacle—it was about planting a seed. By revealing the quiet beginnings of destructive habits, it urged students to notice, reflect, and take charge of their actions. As the event concluded, it left behind a calm but powerful message: Understanding is the First Step toward Change.
