On 31st May 2025, Chitkara University, Punjab marked World No Tobacco Day with a thought-provoking radio talk, Smoking is Not Cool. Organised by the National Service Scheme and hosted by Aadarsh Kumar, the session brought together a panel of educators and health professionals to address the social, psychological, and cultural dimensions of tobacco use.

The discussion featured Dr. Rajwinder Kaur (Professor & NSS School Officer, Chitkara College of Pharmacy), Dr. Saksham Sahni (Assistant Director, Office of Student Affairs), and Dr. Roopika Sabharwal (Assistant Professor, Department of Physiotherapy & NSS School Officer, Chitkara School of Health Sciences). Speaking with clarity and conviction, the panel examined why smoking continues to influence young adults, touching on peer pressure, media portrayal, and the false sense of identity often tied to addictive habits.

Rather than delivering a lecture, the session created space for open reflection. The speakers highlighted how subtle cultural cues shape behaviour, how on-screen glamour can lead to imitation, and how unlearning these patterns requires conscious effort.

Moving beyond the problem, the conversation focused on personal responsibility and the role of everyday dialogue in challenging unhealthy norms. Listeners were encouraged to question influences, make informed choices, and foster a culture of health and awareness.

By the close, the talk had become more than an anti-smoking message, it was a call to action, reminding the audience that change begins with a single choice made with clarity and intent.
