Chitkara University commemorates India’s 80th Independence Day

Chitkara University, Punjab marked India’s 80th Independence Day with a program based on the theme ‘Mera Rang Hindustan’. The occasion brought together the University community for a series of ceremonial and cultural presentations.

The programme began with the unfurling of the National Flag by Dr. Madhu Chitkara, President and Co-Founder, Chitkara University, in the presence of University leadership, faculty, staff and students. Army, Air Force and Navy contingents, along with the Maritime Band and Security Contingent, also participated.

The theme ‘Mera Rang Hindustan’ was showcased in a Jhanki showcasing India’s diverse traditions, art, music, architecture and regional identities. The evening featured Inquilab: The Making of Bhagat Singh, a theatrical presentation on the life and sacrifice of the revolutionary, accompanied by dance and musical performances.

Speaking on the occasion, Dr. Madhu Chitkara said, “Independence Day gives us an opportunity to remember the people whose courage and sacrifice made our freedom possible. It is also a time to reflect on the values of responsibility, service and togetherness that continue to shape our institutions and our country.”

The theatrical presentation brought Bhagat Singh’s story to the stage through key episodes from his life, while performances by C2S2 Custody, the Western Dance Crew, C2S2 Natraj and Dhwani complemented the production through dance, Bharatanatyam, Kathak and music.

Through the day’s programs, Chitkara University brought its community together to remember India’s freedom struggle and mark the occasion through its shared traditions of learning, participation and expression.
