Chitkara University Champion Tuberculosis Awareness with Community Engagement on World TB Day
In a powerful demonstration of community engagement and public health advocacy, students of B.Sc. Nursing, 4th semester, from the Department of Nursing, Chitkara School of Health Sciences, Chitkara University, Punjab, conducted a comprehensive awareness campaign on the occasion of World Tuberculosis Day at Community Health Centre (CHC), Kalomajra. The initiative was aimed at raising awareness about tuberculosis, a disease that remains a major global health concern despite being curable and preventable.
The campaign commenced with an informative talk led by the students, outlining the symptoms, transmission, and treatment options for TB. Healthcare workers, residents, and fellow students gathered at CHC Kalomajra to join the awareness rally that followed. Armed with banners and placards carrying strong public health messages such as “TB is Treatable, Don’t Ignore It” and “Get Tested, Save Lives,” the participants marched through the streets of Kalomajra, engaging directly with the local community.
Throughout the rally, the students distributed educational pamphlets designed to correct common misconceptions about TB and encourage early diagnosis and consistent treatment. Their approach emphasized the importance of breaking the social stigma associated with tuberculosis, a barrier that continues to discourage people from seeking timely help. The materials also included vital information about the resources available at CHC Kalomajra for screening and treatment.
The students’ efforts focused on encouraging open conversations, dispelling myths, and instilling a sense of responsibility among residents to be proactive in combating TB. Their interactive outreach created a visible impact, as the community responded with curiosity, concern, and a readiness to learn.
The campaign concluded with a unified pledge from participants to support TB elimination efforts, aligning with the global goal of a TB-free world by 2030. The event not only marked a successful awareness effort but also reflected the dedication of Chitkara University’s nursing students toward building a healthier and more informed society. Their meaningful participation demonstrated the crucial role that young healthcare professionals can play in addressing public health challenges at the grassroots level.
