World Environment Day - Chitkara University

The department of the National Service Scheme, Chitkara University, Punjab celebrated World Environment Day (5th June 2022) by organising a plantation drive at Chitkara University, Punjab. The drive was graced by the presence of Respected Dr. Archana Mantri, Vice-Chancellor, Chitkara University, Punjab, Prof. Sangeet Jaura, Pro-Vice-Chancellor, Office of International Affairs, and Dr. S.C Sharma, Registrar, Chitkara University, Punjab. The drive was also attended by the Deans and Directors of various departments. Everyone planted saplings as a gesture of giving back to mother earth and give out a message that Chitkara University, Punjab is a green warrior. Department of Computer Applications in collaboration with the National Service Scheme (NSS), Chitkara University, Punjab celebrated World Environment Day on 5th June 2022 wherein a GREEN SELFIE CONTEST was organized.

Chitkara School of Health Sciences also organised a Selfie with Sapling event series in collaboration with the department of National Service Scheme, Chitkara University, Punjab where volunteers planted saplings and clicked pictures. After the plantation drive at University campus, a drive was carried out at the Govt Sr. Sec School, Jhansla by the department of National Service Scheme, Chitkara University, Punjab to build a botanical garden. This drive was conducted with a motive to make the village students aware about the importance of trees and involve them in environment conservation activities.

This drive at the adopted village saw the presence of the village sarpanch, Mr. Raj Kumar and he planted the saplings along with the school students to make the future of our country aware about environment conservation. NSS volunteers from various departments wholeheartedly participated and took a pledge to save the environment.

World Environment Day on 5 June is the biggest international day for the environment. Led by the United Nations Environment Programme (UNEP) and held annually since 1973, the event has grown to be the largest global platform for environmental outreach, with millions of people from across the world engaging to protect the planet.World Environment Day is a global platform for inspiring positive change. With over 150 countries participating, this UN international day engages governments, businesses, civil society, schools, celebrities, cities and communities, raising awareness and celebrating environmental action. Individuals can be drivers of change through their support for businesses and governments. The actions of these larger entities can have a transformational impact, potentially locking in sustainable consumption and production behaviours for the decades to come.
