Chitkara University has entered into a strategic academic collaboration with York University, Canada, through the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding that marks a new chapter in international higher education. The agreement formalises a 2+2 Academic Pathway Program in Computer Science and was signed by Dr. Madhu Chitkara, Pro Chancellor, Chitkara University and Dr. Rhonda Lenton, President and Vice-Chancellor, York University, in the presence of senior leadership from both institutions. The partnership brings together the strengths of two universities to create an opportunity for Indian students to participate in structured international education and gain access to global career avenues.

As part of the academic pathway, students will pursue the first two years of the Bachelor of Engineering in Computer Science at Chitkara University before moving to York University’s Lassonde School of Engineering to complete their degree and earn a Bachelor of Science in Computer Science. The model has been designed to give students access to international industry environments and advanced academic resources at a globally reputed Canadian institution. The program also includes paid co-op placements, housing assistance and scholarship opportunities to support students during their time in Canada and ease their transition into a new academic setting.

The MoU reflects the growing demand for specialised computer science graduates with global exposure and a multi-campus learning experience. It strengthens academic mobility between India and Canada and aligns with the goals of the National Education Policy 2020, which encourages collaboration with international universities to allow learners to experience different curricula, earn global credentials and develop intercultural competencies. The first cohort under this pathway is expected to commence studies at York University in September 2028.

Speaking at the signing ceremony, Dr. Madhu Chitkara said, “Our vision is to provide students with meaningful international opportunities that shape their learning, confidence and future careers.” The collaboration also highlights York University’s commitment to building academic bridges with institutions that share an interest in innovative education and cross-border partnerships.

With this initiative, Chitkara University continues to strengthen its position as an institution that supports ambitious learners and connects them with wider academic ecosystems. By opening access to international learning routes and industry-driven experiences, the university aims to prepare graduates who are equipped for the demands of an increasingly competitive global technology landscape.
