Chitkara University and PSCST conduct Solar Power Workshop for School Students

Chitkara University, in collaboration with the Punjab State Council for Science and Technology, conducted a skill-building workshop titled Harnessing Solar Power for Green Innovation at Chitkara International School, Chandigarh, reinforcing the shared objective of promoting sustainability-focused education among school students. The initiative reflected a growing emphasis on introducing young learners to clean energy concepts and practical applications aligned with environmental responsibility and scientific awareness.
The workshop brought together 100 selected school students from different districts of Punjab, providing them with an opportunity to engage directly with renewable energy concepts through structured learning and guided activities. Designed to move beyond theoretical understanding, the sessions focused on introducing the fundamentals of solar power generation, its relevance in addressing climate challenges, and its role in shaping future energy solutions. Students were encouraged to explore how solar energy can be applied in everyday contexts and larger community-driven initiatives.
Interactive demonstrations and hands-on exercises formed the core of the workshop, enabling participants to understand the working principles of solar panels and related technologies. By engaging directly with practical models and guided experiments, students developed a clearer understanding of how renewable energy systems function and how innovation can emerge through scientific thinking. The learning environment encouraged curiosity and dialogue, allowing students to ask questions, exchange ideas, and approach challenges with a problem-solving mindset.
Faculty members and resource persons associated with the programme emphasised the importance of early exposure to sustainability-related themes. The workshop aimed to help students connect classroom learning with real-world environmental concerns while developing analytical and creative skills. Discussions also addressed broader issues such as energy conservation, responsible resource usage, and the need for alternative energy sources in a changing global landscape.
The collaboration with the Punjab State Council for Science and Technology added institutional depth to the initiative, aligning it with state-level efforts to promote science education and environmental awareness among youth. By bringing together academic expertise and policy-driven objectives, the workshop created a platform that supported meaningful engagement and learning outcomes for participating students.
Chitkara University has consistently focused on extending learning beyond higher education classrooms by engaging school students through outreach programmes and experiential initiatives. This workshop formed part of a larger effort to integrate sustainability-driven themes into educational experiences at an early stage, preparing students to engage thoughtfully with future scientific and societal challenges.
