‘Chitkara Kings’ slosh ‘Cyber Knights’ by 9 wickets to lift Chitkara T20 Trophy 2019

‘Chitkara Kings’ claimed their maiden Chitkara T-20 Trophy by outrunning Team ‘Cyber Knights’ by 9 wickets in the finals of Chitkara T-20 Tournament 2019 at Omega Zone Ground on Friday, April 19, 2019, at Chitkara University, Punjab Campus. Winning the toss, ‘Chitkara Kings’ elected to bowl and the decision played dividends as ‘Chitkara Kings’ packed up ‘Cyber Knights’ for 100 in just 17 overs! Team ‘Chitkara Kings’ took just 7 overs to reach the paltry target with the loss of only 1 wicket.

Team ‘Chitkara Kings’ reached the finals by gaining victory over ‘Team Alumni’ by 6 wickets in the 1st semi-final, while team ‘Cyber Knights’ defeated defending champion ‘BPL Tigers’ by 21 runs in the 2nd semi-final match.

The 12th edition of Chitkara T20 Cricket Tournament saw some brilliant performances with superb sportsman’s spirit and enthusiasm from all participating teams. Hon’ble Dr Madhu Chitkara, Vice-Chancellor, Chitkara University; was the Guest of Honor for the grand finale. In a glittering valedictory ceremony, Dr. Madhu Chitkara gave away trophies & awards to the Champion Team & Runner-Up Team. Team ‘Chitkara Kings’ were awarded the Champion’s Trophy and a cheque of Rs. 31,000, while the Runner-up Team ‘Cyber Knights’ were presented with the Runner-up Trophy and a cheque of Rs. 21,000. Awards were also given for best individual performances across the tournament.

The University Sports Board of Chitkara University, declared the 12th edition of Chitkara T-20 Tournament open with a match between Team ‘ECE Superkings’ and Team ‘Pharmacy Stars’ on February 16, 2019. The tournament was ‘knock-out based’ wherein 38 teams from students, faculty and staff members of Chitkara University participated in the tournament. Over 60 days with 37 matches, including Semifinals and Final, was played in the entire tournament.
