BPL Tigers wins the 11th Chitkara T20 Cricket Trophy to beat Team ECE in a grand finale at Chitkara University
The 11th Chitkara T20 Cricket Tournament 2018 held successfully at Alfa zone ground at Chitkara University organized by the department of university sports board, the tournament involving 38 teams from students, faculty and staff members of Chitkara University. The tournament was inaugurated on 4th February where the opening match was played between Team Supporting Staff Vs Team Canteen-11. The tournament was a knock-out based where a total of 38 teams over 50 days with 37 matches including 34 league matches, 2 Semifinal & 1 grand finale were played in the 11th Chitkara T20 Tournament.
The grand finale was played on sunny Saturday, 24th March 2018 between Team ECE and Team BPL tigers, a clinical bowling performance by Panku, Team BPL tigers saw them restrict ECE to just 52 & a total that team BPL Tigers gunned down comfortably by 5 wickets victory to lift the coveted title for the 1st time.
The tournament was managed by the sports wing of Chitkara University under the leadership of Harinder Lehri, Director, University Sports board. Harkiran Kaur, Director, Office of International Affairs along with other dignitaries of the University were the chief guest for the closing ceremony in which trophy and medals were awarded to the teams of winners (BPL Tigers) and runner-up (ECE). Also, the awards were given to the best individual performances across the tournament. Team ECE awarded with Runner-up trophy and a cheque of RS 21000/- while Team BPL tigers awarded winning a trophy and a cheque of RS 31000/-.
Overall, the 11th Chitkara T20 cricket Tournament 2018 held successfully where all teams played with great sportsman spirit and enthusiasm. Every year, the students and the staff of Chitkara University participate in the T-20 Cricket tournament with great cheer and excitement and the tradition has been carried forward much enthusiastically.
