The Department of Clinical Psychology organised a session titled “From Hormones to Hysterectomy” at Gian Sagar Hospital, Rajpura, focusing on the psychological and emotional aspects of women’s gynaecological health.

Ms. Alka Shaktan, Assistant Professor, led the session and discussed the relationship between hormonal changes, emotional vulnerability and chronic gynaecological pain. The session highlighted how physical health concerns can influence emotional wellbeing and why psychological factors should be considered as part of comprehensive healthcare.

Using the biopsychosocial model, the discussion explored the importance of understanding patients through biological, psychological and social perspectives. Participants were also introduced to the role of counselling, psychoeducation and treatment adherence in supporting individuals experiencing long-term gynaecological health concerns.

The interactive format encouraged participants to engage with the topic and understand the need for sensitive communication while addressing complex health conditions. The session also emphasised the value of compassionate and multidisciplinary care, bringing together different areas of healthcare to support patient wellbeing.

The session was attended by 118 faculty members, healthcare professionals and staff, providing a platform for discussion around the intersection of physical and mental health in gynaecological care. Such sessions contribute to greater awareness among healthcare professionals and encourage a more holistic approach to patient support.
