Chitkara University Receives National Recognition for Leadership in Sustainability
Chitkara University has once again reaffirmed its position as a leader in sustainable education, earning multiple accolades at the prestigious Sustainability Excellence Awards 2025–26. Organised by the National EduTrust of India under the aegis of the Ministry of Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises (MSME), the awards celebrated institutions that have made meaningful strides toward sustainability in education and operations.
Among over 430 participating higher education institutions from Punjab, Chitkara University distinguished itself by winning the Overall Sustainability Excellence Award, District Green Championship Award, Zero-Waste Campus Award, and Water Guardians Award. These recognitions reflect the university’s integrated approach to embedding sustainability across academics, campus infrastructure, and community outreach initiatives.
Dr. Madhu Chitkara, Pro-Chancellor of Chitkara University, was honoured with the Visionary Leadership Award for Excellence in Sustainability and Education. This award recognises her instrumental role in shaping the university’s mission to foster environmentally conscious values within academic frameworks and institutional culture.
Additionally, Sqn Ldr (Dr.) Rina Angel, Chairperson of the Centre of Excellence for Sustainability, was conferred the Best Principal Award for her unwavering leadership in championing green initiatives and driving campus-wide environmental awareness.
The awards were presented by Samarth Sharma, CEO of the National EduTrust of India, who commended Chitkara University’s innovative and strategic contributions to sustainable development. He acknowledged the university’s alignment with the national vision of Viksit Bharat 2047, positioning it as a model for institutions aspiring to integrate sustainability into their core values.
