World Hypertension Day is observed annually on May 17th. The day was initiated by The World Hypertension League with the aim of raising awareness about hypertension. The World Hypertension League is an umbrella to organizations of 85 national hypertension societies and leagues. It is vital to raise awareness about hypertension because of the lack of appropriate knowledge among hypertensive patients. The day was launched in the year 2005. The aim for the first World Hypertension day was ‘Awareness of high blood pressure. The theme for the year 2021 is ‘Measure Your Blood Pressure Accurately, Control It, Live Longer’. The focus of this year’s theme is to create awareness and communicate in our social networks about accurately measuring blood pressure regularly. Hypertension, which is often dismissed as a headache or high blood pressure, can lead to major health problems if not treated appropriately and promptly. Experts estimate that hypertension affects more than 30% of the adult population worldwide or more than one billion people. World Hypertension Day is an excellent opportunity to examine our health state, especially in light of the coronavirus pandemic and the deluge of tragic news around coming in every day.
