About Office of International Affairs

At Chitkara University, we believe a global university is an institution that perfectly incorporates international perspectives and experiences into its teaching, research, and engagement objectives. Furthermore, the university asserts that to thrive, it must be global in scope, reputation, and orientation in to thrive. In order to build on the university's extensive legacy of global involvement and capitalise on its past achievements abroad, Chitkara University initiated a process of international strategic planning that led to the establishment of the Office of International Affairs.

The Office of International Affairs (OIA) is designed to perform efficiently in defining an appropriate internationalisation policy, creating and carrying out internationalisation initiatives, working with foreign partners to coordinate and collaborate, and encouraging the university’s staff, instructors, and students to travel abroad. Employers place a greater emphasis on graduates who possess international education and experience in an era of globalisation and constant connectivity. Chitkara University fosters a global outlook in its students through its interconnected international relationships and cosmopolitan, heterogeneous environment. At Chitkara University, it is customary for students to participate in Student Exchanges, Study Abroad, or Articulation with partner universities worldwide and engage in international research collaboration, and participate in international faculty exchanges. These initiatives collectively contribute to the institution's reputation for providing an education that is both globally renowned and of the highest caliber. The organising and advising functions of the Office of International Affairs (OIA) at Chitkara University are intended to assist the campus's international community. This epitomizes the university’s commitment to creating students as global citizens.

The Role of the Office of International Affairs

Creating and putting into practice an internationalisation plan.
Supporting academic staff in their work with international organisations, both in terms of research and teaching.
Encouraging student and employee mobility, including exchange initiatives.
International promotional materials about programs and funding agencies.
Procuring and sharing information on fellowship and scholarship programs.
Exploring ways to improve student and faculty research capabilities through international partnerships.
Indentifying partners and developing Memorandums of Understanding with the intention to work strongly with each other.
Arranging global gatherings for conferences, workshops, meetings, cultural exchange initiatives, events, and activities.

International Opportunities at Chitkara University

In accordance with the agreement, the home or host university accepts international students for short-term or long-term study or exchange programs. Scholarship or exchange programs like Erasmus+ also help with inbound mobility. A Memorandum of Understanding, also known as a Memorandum of Agreement, which is signed between the sending and receiving universities already, specifies the requirements, terms, and advantages.

Outbound Mobility

Through outbound mobility, academic staff and students can participate in programs offered at universities abroad. It is the responsibility of the OIA to seek out international opportunities and partner universities. These opportunities are frequently presented in the form of scholarships, Memorandums of Understanding, and bilateral or multi-lateral agreements. Students obtain a greater understanding of the world, develop an appreciation for other cultures, overcome the difficulties of living in a foreign country, and acquire new language skills through studying abroad.

Inbound Mobility

Semester Exchange offers International students the chance to participate in academic programs offered at the host university, and helps them increase their subject knowledge and proficiency in comprehending global viewpoints and concerns. The Office of International Affairs is responsible for facilitating the mobility through a process of nomination and selection with our partner university. This has limited seats and is always oversubscribed. While residing at Chitkara University, our community serves as the foundation for the incredible opportunities that await you. We have a long-standing tradition at the Office of International Affairs of welcoming students from all over the world to participate in our local community and leave with a stronger sense of global belonging. We are thrilled to have you join us at Chitkara University, whether you are a student visiting for a semester from a partner university or a traveler taking a twenty-hour flight.

Inbound short mobility

In an unprecedented attempt to expand globally, Chitkara University along with its partner universities is providing an Articulation Program. Students will attend Chitkara University for two years before choosing to transfer to the university of their choice where they will continue their studies for another two years. Students will get the degree from the respective foreign university upon fulfilling all the course requirements.

The Direct Masters Program, one of the OIA's numerous global initiatives, offers students the chance to be admitted directly to our partner universities for their master's degree program.

Various universities from our exceptional global network of partnerships offer semester-long and full-year scholarships as well as internships to students, making study completely free for that duration. This allows many of our gifted and deserving students to experience life abroad and equips them for success in the global community. One example of such an opportunity is the Erasmus+ Program.

Erasmus+ is the European Union's initiative to promote sports, education, and training among youth. It provides opportunities for collaboration and mobility in the following domains: Sport, Youth, Adult Education, Vocational Education & Training, and School Education (including Early Childhood Education and Care). Some of the ongoing projects that are being executed as part of the Erasmus+ program are EDUREFORM - Mitigate the Impact of Fourth Industrial Revolution on Indian Society: Education Reform for Future and In-Service School Teachers, EUHEALTH – Europeanisation and Health Care Systems in the European Union. Noteworthy past projects include: CLIL@India - Developing Content and Language Integrated Learning – Resource and Training Centre for Multilingual India, OCULUS - Optometry Curriculum for Lifelong Learning through Erasmus, PREVENT IT - Risk Management and Prevention of Antibiotics Resistance and DECODING EU – Decoding the European Union.

Our Pro Vice Chancellor, Prof. Hazel Siromoni is an International Education expert, Counselling Psychologist, Youth Mentor and Leadership Coach. By education, she is a Clinical Psychologist with nearly thirty years of experience in the field of education. For a number of years, she has served as the Director of the Canadian Education Centre, India (CECN), which was established with funding from the Canadian government to promote Canada as a destination for post-secondary education.
