NSS Leads World Environment Day Observance at Chitkara University

On 5th June 2025, the National Service Scheme spearheaded the observance of World Environment Day at Chitkara University, Punjab, aligning with the global theme “Ending Plastic Pollution.” The event began with an Oath Taking Ceremony, where students, faculty, and staff pledged to reduce plastic use and adopt sustainable practices. The collective commitment reflected the university’s resolve to build habits that contribute to a healthier planet.
The programme moved forward with a tree plantation drive, inaugurated by Dr. Sandhir Sharma, Vice-Chancellor, Chitkara University, Punjab, who planted the first sapling. He was joined by Lt. Col. (Dr.) Rakesh Sharma (Registrar), Pro Vice Chancellors Harpreet Bhatia, Dr. K. K. Mishra, Prof. Hazel Seromoni, and Sanjay Khurana (Vice President, Residential Services). Their participation highlighted a united front in strengthening environmental responsibility.
Faculty members, deans, and directors across departments also planted saplings, transforming the act into a shared commitment to sustainability. The presence of students from Chitkara International School added youthful enthusiasm, their active involvement underlining the importance of cultivating ecological awareness from an early age.
Addressing the gathering, the Vice-Chancellor urged the community to plant trees daily, stressing that environmental stewardship must extend beyond symbolic observances to everyday action. The event reaffirmed Chitkara University’s dedication to sustainability, ensuring that care for the environment remains central to its mission.
