Chitkara University Marks World Theatre Day with Performance on Women’s Narratives

The Office of Student Affairs at Chitkara University commemorated World Theatre Day with a performance titled Naari (Voices Unbound). Presented through expressive dance by Divya Bhardwaj and Aastha Sijaria, the production drew on stories from Indian mythology to reflect on women’s experiences and resilience.
Drawing on the narratives of Draupadi, Ahalya, and Sita, the performance explored women navigating constraint while seeking self-realisation. It contrasted two paths: one where women assert their voice and autonomy, and another where they remain confined by expectation.
The performance concluded with a reference to Draupadi’s disrobing in the Mahabharata, asking what might have happened had Krishna not intervened. The moment highlighted the idea of strength emerging from within.
Events such as this reflect the University’s continued engagement with theatre and the performing arts as avenues for cultural expression and dialogue within the campus community.
