6-Months GP Rating

The six months General Purpose Rating (GP Rating) Course is approved by the Directorate General of Shipping (Government of India). This course includes a broad range of practical, workshop and lab skills, using state-of-the-art instrumentation and on-board training.

Eligibility

    • The candidate must have scored an aggregate 40% in 10th standard with Science and Mathematics as compulsory subjects from a recognized board.
  • The candidate must have scored an aggregate 40% in English in 10th standard from a recognized board.
  • The minimum age limit for this course is 17.5 and the maximum age limit for this course is 25 years.

OR

  • The candidate must have passed 2 years ITI course from a govt. recognized institute with a minimum aggregate 50% in the final year.
  • The candidate must have secured a minimum aggregate 40% in English.

OR

  • A candidate who is a Diploma or Degree holder and the degree must be recognized by any State/Central Government or the AICTE.
  • The maximum age limit for the degree or diploma is raised to 27 years, with a condition that they are candidates are provided with shipboard training within one year of completion of the course.
  • Medical Fitness as per the DGS norms.
  • Please note that passport is mandatory to process INDoS.

The subject areas addressed include but are not limited to: English, Personality and Communication Skills, Health Hazards & Personal Safety, Usage of Life Saving Appliances & Fire Fighting Appliances,
Safe Working Practices on Deck & in Engine Room, First Aid, Security at Sea, Engine Room Watch Keeping, Navigation & Watch Keeping, Ship’s Maintenance, Cargo Handling and Stowage and Basic Environmental Protection.

The curriculum is a blend of theory and practical training along with skills like parade, swimming, sports, workshop training, rope and mast climbing, life-saving, firefighting exercises and ship visit.

This course ensures higher employability of the Indian seafarers in the international market.
