About IEEE

IEEE is the world’s largest professional association, which is dedicated to taking technological innovation forward.

The global community derives inspiration from IEEE and its members through its publications, conferences, technology standards, professional and educational activities.

Members collaborate through a platform provided by the IEEE on world‐changing technologies, from computing and sustainable energy systems, to aerospace, communications, robotics, healthcare, and more.

More and more lives have been touched by IEEE’s role over the decades that have followed.

IEEE Societies comprises professional groups and technical boards of the predecessor institutions. There were 38 societies by the early 21st Century, through which the IEEE served its members and their interests; apart from 130 journals, there are transactions and magazines; more 300 conferences annually and 900 active standards.

This was the time when the virtual world became more compact, all a part of a global network connected by satellites and then by fiber optics.

The area of interest of IEEE was not limited to electrical/electronic engineering and computing, it expanded to areas such as micro- and nanotechnology, ultrasonics, bioengineering, robotics, electronic materials, and many others.

Electronics became omnipresent. We could not do without them. IEEE kept an account of every possible innovation that was made and become a global institution, which used the innovations of the practitioners it represented in order to enhance its own excellence in delivering products and services to members, industries, and the public at large.

Publications and educational programs were delivered online, as were member services such as renewal and elections. By 2010, IEEE had over 395,000 members in 160 countries.

Through its worldwide network of geographical units, publications, web services, and conferences, IEEE remains the world’s largest technical professional association.

IEEE Student Branch at Chitkara University

It was in 2009 when IEEE student branch was established at Chitkara University’s Punjab campus. When the branch was launched, there were 12 student members and three faculty members. Since then, a lot of interest has been expressed by student members in organizing and conducting various activities under IEEE flagship. At present, there are about 28 student members with the number growing.

Several activities have been organized by IEEE Student Branch

2010

  • Yatin Trivedi, Director, Standards and Interoperability Programs, and Synopsis, delivered a talk on ‘Careers in VLSI’.
  • About 60 teams from India had taken part in ‘Crackle- An ethical hacking competition’.
  • About 40 students were a part of ‘Youth Parliament’, where there were discussions on major government policies that directly and indirectly affect our youth.
  • ‘HR Breach’, opportunity given to students to evaluate and rank for dynamism, communications and intellectual skills and to interact with an expert to improve on these skills. This event saw participation of over 40 students.

2011

  • About 80 teams from India participated in ‘Coding Hut’, a major programming competition to involve students in different programming languages.
  • Students were given a chance to test awareness and understanding about various Operating Systems through ‘Window Certified Engineer’.

2012

  • ‘SAMEEKSHA’, a technical paper presentation, in which more than 50 students confronted various technical views.
  • ‘GOOGLY’, Google your goal, were organized and it was rewarded as the most popular event among the technical.
  • ‘Anusandhaan-The Project Showcase, witnessed extraordinary efforts put in by students under the notion of Project Display in Star and Eminent Project Competition. More than 130 students participated in this event with zest and zeal.
  • ‘RGB’ saw students forming various colors with the combination of Primary Color.
  • ‘Razmatazz’ was a quiz competition in which more than 30 students participated.

2013

  • ‘C-STORM’ event constituted of three rounds inviting students with the dexterous ability to crack codes and debug programs. It was a three-member team event and more than 200 teams that ensured a well tested ability of the students.
  • Through ‘GAR-COLL’, technical model-making capabilities were tested. The technical models were made using waste material, which inspired youth on how to get the best out of the e-waste material rather than dumping it. More than 120 teams participated in this event.
  • ‘Techlas’ was a word game wherein maximum possible technical words were to be formed from given word.
  • In ‘Pick-Pic’, participants had to guess the name of latest technologies by seeing the pictures. Students showed immense interest in this event. More than 100 teams participated in this.

Awards won by IEEE Branch Counselor and Executive Student Members

  • Meenu Khurana won award for Best Student Branch Counselor from IEEE Delhi Section Region 10 in 2010.
