FDP on Research Paper Publication

Chitkara University, Punjab, will be organizing a workshop December 19, 2013, Thursday, In association with AIMS INTERNATIONAL (Association of Indian Management Scholars (AIMS) International).

The objective of this workshop will be:
For all management scholars getting one’s scholarly work published in a reputed journal is the ultimate recognition of academic abilities.

Gone are the days when it was considered to be enough to be just a good teacher. Today, it is a necessary prerequisite to achieve success in the academic profession. A good record of publications in topnotch journals does not only guarantee personal satisfaction but it also opens doors to well established portals of academic learning.

However, the road to getting one’s paper published and that too in a top-notch journal is a complex task. It is an arduous process right from deciding your topic and methodology of research to being able to target the right journal and finally to adapt your paper to the requirements of the editors and the reviewers.

The workshop is intended to support researchers in their quest for publishing their scholarly publications in top refereed journals.

Program content will be:

While getting a paper published has many aspects to it, the workshop is aiming to focus on the most pertinent issues. Some of the topics that have been outlined are as follows:

  • Formulating a publication strategy
  • Understanding the publication process
  • Structuring a research article
  • Significance on abstract and introduction sections
  • Doing an adequate Literature review
  • Choice of an appropriate methodology
  • Presenting results
  • Getting the right references and understanding various referencing styles
  • The right form of Tables, Figures, Appendices and Bibliography
  • Understanding various types of journals, classification, reputation, etc.
  • Targeting the right Journal
  • Interacting with the journal editors
  • Addressing referees’ concerns and comments
  • Handling revision and rejection decisions
  • The do’s and don’ts of writing academic papers

About resource person

Dr. Omprakash K. Gupta is a professor of management in the College of Business at University of Houston, Downtown in Texas, USA. He has previously taught at Purdue University, Ball State University, Washington State University, IIM Ahmedabad, and Prairie View A&M University.

He was the founder director of Nirma Institute of Management. Dr. Gupta has published about sixty research papers in refereed journals such as Management Science, European J. of Operations Research, J. of OR Society, Int. J. of Operations and Production Management, Asia Pacific Management Review, J. of Business Ethics, etc.

He is the founder editor of Int. J. of Operations and Quantitative Management and AIMS International Journal of Management. He is also on the editor board on several journals.

He has helped several young researchers from India, USA, Thailand, Korea, Taiwan etc. to publish in excellent journals and examined doctoral thesis of candidates from universities in India, S. Africa, Thailand, etc. He had delivered keynote speeches all over the world.

He is also the founder of AIMS International. He has won several teaching, research, and service awards. Dr. Gupta has successfully conducted faculty development workshops and seminars at National Taiwan University, National Cheng Kung University in Taiwan, Osaka Institute of Technology (Japan), ICFAI Business School (Pune, Gurgaon and Indore), IIM Lucknow, Indus Business Academy, GHSIMR, CMTR, and several other institutions.

International Participant: $ 100 (Per Participant)*

Workshop fee includes lunch and Refreshment on 19.12.2013.*

Registration fees do not include any accommodation charges. The institution may provide all assistance and support to find a comfortable stay for the participants (if required).
