Europeanisation and Health Care Systems in the European Union | EUHEALTH

Academic teaching activity

The teaching activities promoted in the framework of the project are targeting the postgraduate health management students enrolled at Chitkara University. The teaching module introduces the European notion of health system, investigating how the European Union attempts to address the health challenges faced by the European citizens. The students will be given a briefing about the European institutions, the governance of the EU, the transnational dimension of health in Europe, and the European Union policies in the domain. Starting from the topics covered during the lessons, students will be encouraged to develop a comparative analysis between the Indian and European scenario. The teaching activities will provide space for dialogues, through group activities, and problem-solve based tasks. As part of a broader capacity building initiative, the course will be developed by a European-Indian task force of scholars, having experienced professors seconded by young researchers.

Vocational teaching activity

As an innovative element in the Indian landscape, the EUHEALTH project will organize short training modules for health professionals. The current and future challenges of the Indian health system require professionals trained with skills related to global health, capable of comparatively analyze health policies. The European integration process - and the EU health multilevel governance - will be presented as a valuable case study for the Indian contemporary scenario. The training would offer an interdisciplinary perspective of the different approaches adopted in the governance of the European health sector. The scope is to provide hands-on exposure to Indian professionals. Offering valuable inspiration to the professionals working in the health care sector and academia, the final aims is to empower strategic stakeholders with concrete tools adaptable to the Indian health care scenario.

E-Course

The e-course is conceived to enhance the inclusivity of the projects’ intellectual output. The aim is to ensure the outreach of students and professionals living/studying in a remote area of the country. The baseline idea is to ensure target audience diversification and enlargement – and at the same time - to increase the visibility of the Jean Monnet Action in India. The mission is to disseminate knowledge on the governance, regulatory framework and specific policies of the EU health system. The e-learning materials would be composed of a melange of video audio resources, interactive and illustrated didactic slides, remote readings and assignments. Available free of cost, after the successful completion of the e-course the learner would be able to independently analyze the recent European policies in the field of health, understanding the supranational and intergovernmental dynamics of the European integration process.

Capacity building in research

The final aim is to create progressively create the first pool of Indian researchers experts in EU and health. With the instrumental involvement of the benchmark European experts in EU and health, during the initial phase, Indian experts would be tutored to conduct investigation mainly based on literary review. The idea is to ensure the immediate impact of the project both in terms of published papers and in expertise increase. The final mission is to shape mature scholars able to prepare advanced research protocols in the field of Health applied to European Studies. The goal is to progressively increase the quality and the impact of the publications.

Public events

To provide sound visibility to the Erasmus+ Jean Monnet action in India an extensive set of activities will be organized. Every year at the Chitkara University Punjab campus, the Erasmus+ day event will be delivered to inform the students and the staff of the university regarding the development of the EUHEALTH project, as well as, encourage active participation in the Erasmus+ programme. In cooperation with academic and health professional, the project will promote two workshops reflecting on the health care systems in the EU, and in the implementation of universal health coverage as a human right. Last but not least, under the aegis of the EUHEALTH project a round table discussion will debate the EU-India relation on health, involving institutional stakeholders from Europe and India. Overall, the purpose of the projects’ public event is to provide a platform for the EU-India people-to-people relations in the field of health.
