Syllabus

Through the interdisciplinary and multilevel governance approaches, the course analyses the key aspects of the European healthcare systems. The aim is to disseminate skills on health care and Universal Health Coverage in the European Union. The course aims to introduce the regulating principles and values of healthcare in the European Union; identifying the key characteristics and components of public health policies; assessing the strengths and weaknesses of EU Member States; and analysing the recent development in the European health governance. Each topic addresses a specific sub-domain, offering a comprehensive picture of the state of the art – and providing an outlook on how health competencies are shared between the European Union and its Member States. The module adopts an interdisciplinary approach to explore the complexities entangled in the governance of national health systems within the EU. The course helps to understand how EU integration process influences the health systems of the Member States. More specifically, it explains how the spillover generated by the EU internal market influenced the functioning of the national healthcare systems. Special attention has been given to topics that are more pertinent to the latest trends in the Indian healthcare sector. Disseminate solutions developed in the European context - and challenges hampering the inclusivity of the European health politics - is considered a tool to empower students interested to develop strategies responding to the national and global health-related challenges.
