

Equivalent to 4 credits (6 ECTS), the course is a compulsory module first year – second semester – of the postgraduate studies program Master in Business and Administration for Health Care Management (MBA Health Care) – co-organised by Chitkara School of Health Sciences and Chitkara School of Management. Enrolled students would not have to disburse additional fees to attend the course.
Through the interdisciplinary and multilevel governance approaches, the course analyses the key aspects of the European healthcare systems. The aim is to disseminate skills on health care and Universal Health Coverage in the European Union. The course aims to introduce the regulating principles and values of healthcare in the European Union; identifying the key characteristics and components of public health policies; assessing the strengths and weaknesses of EU Member States; and analysing the recent development in the European health governance. Each topic addresses a specific sub-domain, offering a comprehensive picture of the state of the art – and providing an outlook on how health competencies are shared between the European Union and its Member States. The module adopts an interdisciplinary approach to explore the complexities entangled in the governance of national health systems within the EU. The course helps to understand how EU integration process influences the health systems of the Member States. More specifically, it explains how the spillover generated by the EU internal market influenced the functioning of the national healthcare systems. Special attention has been given to topics that are more pertinent to the latest trends in the Indian healthcare sector. Disseminate solutions developed in the European context - and challenges hampering the inclusivity of the European health politics - is considered a tool to empower students interested to develop strategies responding to the national and global health-related challenges.
Students on successful completion of the course would be able to:
Assessment conducted with the active and continuous involvement of the students. The evaluation will be conducted with (i) group-based activities and presentations, (ii) individual final exam. The internal group assessment will be conducted on daily basis daily with the conduction a debate assessing the work conducted by the group during the course activities. The written exam, and the groups’ presentation will be conducted at the end of the module.
