Civil Engineering is a professional engineering discipline that deals with the design, construction, and maintenance of naturally built physical environments like roads, bridges, canals, dams, and buildings. It’s a very diverse profession and offers a wide range of activities across a variety of disciplines. From water quality to any natural calamity preparedness, civil engineering plays a crucial role in enabling liveable and sustainable cities with healthy environments. The innovations in this field have their greatest impacts on the quality of human lives. By continuously developing and upgrading the services and facilities for the public, civil engineers gain a sense of responsibility toward humanity. Chitkara University offers an undergraduate four-year Bachelor of Engineering program in civil engineering. This program prepares the students to serve as key contributors to improving our society and tackling future challenges. Chitkara University is a one-stop destination for civil engineering aspirants for many reasons, some of which are listed below: –

Diverse Specialisations

After completion of the 4th semester in B.E. Civil Engineering, students at Chitkara University have the opportunity to pursue specialisation in public health engineering and construction management and structural engineering.

  • Public health engineering: This sector is responsible for water collection, purification, transmission, and distribution. Public health engineer is responsible for ensuring that the water level is monitored and regulated, wastewater treatments and rivers are engineered to meet the growing demands of the expanding populations. This program gives technical expertise in building, analysing and testing green water (fresh), greywater (waste) and other green technologies associated with it. Students learn the maintenance and production of plumbing and conceptualise and design MEP services pertaining to plumbing which includes recycling and solid waste disposal.
  • Construction management and structural engineering: This specialisation provides students with the knowledge of modern construction materials and techniques along with effective construction management practices. This includes the designing of buildings and bridges and considering the impact of wind, earthquakes or people. Students become capable of constructing structures within a given stipulated time and budget. This course includes the basics of solids, fluids, and soils, analysis and design of steel and concrete structures. Students can also opt for special electives in scaffolding and framework, modern structural materials and systems design, contract laws and regulations, etc.

Exploring the Creative Side

If you think that creativity can only be found in arts then you would be wrong. The huge number of different designs for buildings, bridges and other structures shows how creative civil engineers are to think out of the box in order to solve a wide range of challenges. No two problems or issues are the same and thus they need to imagine things that don’t yet exist, then brainstorm and come up with solutions each and every time. Civil engineers combine a strong technical background along with a creative mindset in order to develop an amazing design. With qualified and skilled faculties and a vast curriculum at Chitkara University, students get to unleash their creative side easily and implement it in practical approaches.

Civil engineering is called “The Mother of all Engineering” because it existed long before any of the contemporary engineering came into existence. It is an evergreen and future-proof field. As long as humanity will exist, demand for roads, buildings, houses, bridges, dams, canals, and transportation will exist and so will the demand for civil engineers. As it directly impacts the community, civil engineering is a desirable field to be in. It’s a real team effort that also makes a tangible difference in people’s lives. Job satisfaction for civil engineers is at its peak. Most structures today are designed to last for more than 100 years and knowing that you have helped in building something that your children and grandchildren may use is a real source of happiness. Everything from pay to prestige and from challenges to creativity is a part of a civil engineer’s career. Chitkara University with its academic infrastructure, powerful industry interface, quality placements, and great ROI provides every opportunity to its students to experience and fulfil their dream of becoming civil engineers and making an impact in the world.
