Programme Objectives
Chitkara School of Planning & Architecture was the first institute in North of Delhi to start the Master of Architecture (M.Arch) program in 2008.
The 5-semester Master of Architecture (M. Arch) Programme provides advanced education in theory and practice of architecture. With a special focus on advanced knowledge and critical analysis of core design issues of the contemporary built environment, it offers a framework for investigating 21st-century architecture design theories, practices, and technologies.
The dual objectives of the Programme are firstly to prepare architects to meet challenges of professional practice and, secondly to build critical attitudes and skills for research and teaching The course is specifically structured to offer an opportunity for upgrading qualifications for both in-service teachers as well as practicing and employed architects who wish to advance their design skills, improve their knowledge of current techniques and theory, and be part of a more speculative design environment. In addition fresh graduates may also join the Programme.
Programme Structure
The programme of studies leading to Master of Architecture (M. Arch) Degree consists of prescribed courses distributed over five semesters. (Refer attached table).
Each of the first four semesters has a separate theme reflecting a major facet of contemporary built environment (e.g., High-tech Buildings, Sustainable Architecture, Urban Design and Regionalist Studies) and, thus, can be treated as an independent study module. The Theme adopted for each semester is essentially defined through the nature of projects prescribed for the design courses called the “Studio”, which are seen as the core courses. These are further reinforced through a range of “Seminar”, “Theory” and “Elective” courses. The fifth semester is devoted to the Thesis Project, and can be attempted only after the other four have been successfully completed.

Admission to the Executive Programme for Degree of Master of Architecture (Architectural Design) shall be open to a candidate who has passed the B. Arch or any equivalent examination recognized by the Council of Architecture.
