Career Options
When you pass out, you will be a well-rounded individual with a mind that talks its own language, actions that are liberated of any conditioning and a mind that travels light. With all this in place, and a degree in hand, you can turn into one of these/many of these option:
- Print Journalist
Depending on your ability, performance, inclination and the right opportunity, you could be a newspaper/magazine reporter, feature writer, with skills to edit, plan and design a print communication. You could specialise in sports, health, education, environment, development, technology, politics, business and more.
- Photographer
Again, depending on your sense of news and your ability to capture the soul of an idea/ moment / situation/ event or topic, you can be a photographer who can later on choose, hard news or features or any other specialised form of photography. You could develop skills to go and join the league of fashion photographers, wildlife and travel photographer, nature photographers etc.
- Producer
Apparently the most glamorous job in the broadcast industry; a TV producer is the creator of content who takes a show from the conceptual stage to that of broadcasting and works on its look & feel, storyline, GFX, music and structure.
- Video Editor
Then there is the video editor – the storyteller of a TV show who goes through the raw footage shot by a cameraperson and weaves it with music, sound and visual effects to make it interesting for the viewers.
- Studio Director
You could be a studio director – the captain of a ship in a LIVE studio environment or a production assistant who does the research, planning, execution of shoots, facilitating and post-production aspects.
- Cameraperson
Yes you could be a cameraperson – the eyes and the ears of a TV station/channel. Viewers watch all the action through a cameraperson's view-finder. The prerequisites include visual flair, an instinct for picture composition and lots of stamina. The student also has to have patience, an eye for detail and a deep understanding of the photographic principles. You could also branch into full time documentary making and then set the base for filmmaking.
- Scriptwriter
A career in script-writing offers the creatively ambitious platform to shape and mould language into an earpleasing experience. Scriptwriters need a good command over the language, computer skills and a sound general knowledge.
- Production Control Room (PCR) Crew
Led by the studio director, the PCR crew includes personnel manning sound, playout automation, vision-mixing, timing of the show and broadcast GFX. The skill set aside, you need dedication, concentration and commitment. You could also be a floor manager – the crucial link between studio directors and anchors who is the studio director's representative on the shooting floor and ensures discipline on the sets.
- Radio Jockey
The voice of a radio channel, they are expressive, different, interesting and friendly and the main link between a radio station and the listener. With the sheer sound and quality of their speech, they can make a listener tune in or tune off.
