SAE

Society of Automotive Engineers (SAE) is an International Society having headquarters in USA. It has more than 121,000 members, which includes - engineers, business executives, educators, and students from more than 97 countries - who share information and exchange ideas for advancing the engineering of mobility systems. SAE is one-stop resource for standards development, events, and technical information and expertise used in designing, building, maintaining, and operating self-propelled vehicles for use on land or sea, in air or space. SAE INDIA is an affiliate society of SAE International. It has 190 collegiate clubs in India with 22500 student members (as on April 6’2010).

It has got five sections namely Northern India Section, Eastern India Section, Western India Section, Bangalore Section and Southern India Section .The SAE Collegiate Club, Northern India Section at Chitkara Institute of Engineering & Technology was inaugurated on March 20’2006. The Chief Guest for the Inauguration program was Mr. A. D. Sindwani – Consultant, Northern India Section, SAE International. An important highlight of the programme was a technical talk by Mr. Ajit Singh from Maruti Udyog Ltd. The SAE Collegiate Club in the college started with 52 student members and the number has touched 92 as student members in 2010.

By becoming a part of the SAE Family, the Mechanical Engineering Department is immensely benefited by bringing its student members and faculty on the network of the latest advancements in technology in the field of automobiles. This will also enable exchange of information and ideas with other members of SAE as well as with representatives of industry to make the education practice oriented.

Activities undertaken by the SAE Collegiate Club at CIET:

  • Technical Symposium: A technical symposium was organized, under the aegis of the Society of Automotive Engineers, India (SAE INDIA) by the Mechanical Engineering Department of college on Tuesday, September 04, 2007. The symposium included very educative presentations jointly prepared by faculty members and students of the Institute. An interesting part of the program was a detailed presentation by the representatives of DOMUS ACADEMY, which is a premier Design and Fashion School in Italy, offering Master's courses in Car design and mobility, accessories design, business design, Interior and living design, etc. The presentation was given by Dr. Silvia Signorelli, Institutional Manager of Domus Academy, assisted by Ms. Ruchi Mehta of M/S TASMAC, INDIA

  • Industrial Visits: The collegiate club organizes various industrial visits for the student members of SAE. The two organizations to which industrial visit were made on September 12’2008 were DCM, Ropar and PTL, Mohali. Both these industries cater to the automotive sector. While PTL is known for tractors, DCM is the Biggest Foundry (in terms of capacity production per annum) in Asia manufacturing cylinder heads, connecting rods and gear box housing etc. for a number of automobile companies in the country.

  • SAE and participation in International Event organized by SAE Australasia by our team (TAZZ Team) .The Formula SAE(society of automotive engineers) Australasia Competition was held at Victoria University, Werribee, Australia from 27thNovember to 30th November , 2008 .Out of 50 teams which registered for competition from all over the world, only 32 teams qualified for the final competition. Out of these 32 teams, 5 teams were from India ( IIT-chennai, GGSIU,Delhi , CIET-Rajpura, PES Institute, M.S Ramaiah college) Out of these 24 teams, the CIET team got the 22nd position.

  • The Formula Racing Team, TAZZ-2 under the Chitkara flagship and adept leadership of Faculty Advisor Mr. Ravinder Pal Singh, Senior Lecturer, ME Department, CIET won the First Runners up position in the first ever Formula SAE Student Design Challenge held at Anna University, Chennai on 11th – 12th December, 2009.
    Innovation and optimism shone through the work of these young student designers. Twenty Eight teams from all over India participated in the event. Chitkara’s concept vehicle made a huge impression on the expert judging panel. Teams were adjudged in three stages by a panel of well renowned judges having multifarious experience in automobiles and industry. The Chief Judge for the event was Mr. Claude Rouelle, Founder, Optimum G. The teams were adjudged on a scale of 300 points which was further split into three categories.

  • Organized CAD Combatt, an AutoCAD designing competition in National level Tech Fest, Praudiyogikii’10 at CIET. There were around 20 teams participating with student from all over the country .The event was a great success, and the winners were awarded Rs.15000/- cash for 1st position and Rs. 5000/- for 2nd position.
    Some Fun Events like 3D soap modeling and machine football were also organized by the club under this Tech fest.

  • On 6th March, 2010 executive members of SAE student chapter were invited for the SAE NIS Convention in Delhi. Four Students namely Ankit Kaura, Ashish , Abhishek Sharma and Gagandeep Singh went for convention to represent the college and benefited by knowledge about new technical improvements in automotive sector
  Future activities
In its continuous endeavor to increase the technical know how of its members, the SAE India Collegiate club in near future, is going to organize various expert talks as well as is going to organize industrial visits of its members to automobile industry of high repute in the region.
