Program Content and Structure
AN INNOVATIVE PROGRAM WITH STRONG INDUSTRY INVOLVEMENT
Core Courses
The program provides a strong foundation in core business disciplines, helping participants to acquire the key competencies needed by all MBAs. The core courses are covered in four terms with the bulk of it covered in the first three terms. These core courses enhance the ability to communicate, analyze situations and take decisions using quantitative and qualitative factors, and to develop a holistic view of the different functional areas and the business environment. During this period, students take courses in general management and major functional areas, such as marketing, finance and accounting, operations management, organization behaviour, human resources and strategic management. They are also exposed to the basic disciplines of economics, behavioral sciences, business intelligence, quantitative methods and decision sciences.
Summer Internship
After the culmination of the first three terms, the students go for an industry internship with an organization for about three months. It is a compulsory component of the curriculum for the completion of the academic program and designed to provide exposure to organizational working, to develop an understanding of the real corporate world, and to learn the application of theoretical concepts in real life business situations. Since the summer project is a vital component in the promotion of the student into the second year, the students are put through a rigorous evaluation process, The evaluation report prepared by the organizational guide on conceptual and behavioural capabilities displayed by the student intern is considered an important input.

At Chitkara University, course curriculum for the 2-year MBA program is spread over seven terms of about three months each.

SPECIALIZATION IN FINANCE & MARKETING
Specializations
In the second year, the students take elective/optional courses and can specialize in :
  • Finance
  • Marketing
University runs- several HR courses during the terms to make the students capable of pursuing their career in HR as well.

To specialize in an area a student must take a minimum of five elective course credits offered by that area. All elective packages, however, may not be offered, as this would be determined by the number of students showing interest in a particular area. The University may also consider new electives in line with recent developments and availability of expertise to offer the same.
Specialisation In Finance
finance is the life and blood of business. Given that finance drives business, this makes financial specialists integral to every major business decision. As business activities expand globally and transactions become increasingly complex, finance professionals are challenged to analyze and report these activities in ways that produce meaningful information for investors, managers, lenders, and other stakeholders.


The Finance stream will focus on following domains:

  • Banking Management
The Finance specialization addresses issues relating to financial services and securities, with relevant coverage of high technology firms, large corporations and entrepreneurial companies. The program is designed to give students an in-depth exposure and the necessary foundation in various areas of financial management. Students learn real world financial and investment decision-making under diverse market conditions in the stimulating environment of the classroom. The program blends theory with advanced financial management problems and imparts essential and contemporary knowledge. Through the Finance courses, the students acquire skills to work in corporate finance, consulting, financial markets, private banking, investment banking and commercial banking.

The program equips the students to handle job responsibilities such as financial analysis, cash management, wealth management, securities analysis and trading, treasury operations, retail banking and assets acquisition activities.
Specialisation In Marketing
The focus of the program is on sharpening analytical and decision-making skills in topics such as advertising, integrated marketing communications, market research, brand/product management, distribution, relationship marketing and international marketing.

The Marketing stream will focus on :

  • Product Marketing and Management
An increasingly global marketplace, coupled with new communication vehicles such as the Internet, has dramatically changed traditional marketing strategies. Today’s marketing professionals must understand the unique challenges of serving domestic and foreign markets and conveying their messages to consumers throughout the world effectively. The key concepts of the course focus on identifying customer needs and wants, developing products and services to meet those demands, establishing effective communication strategies to promote products and services, and monitoring transactions and customer responses to guide future activities.
Evaluation
The evaluation system for the MBA programme has been designed to achieve the following:
  • Help teaching faculty to evaluate the progress of learning of each student.
  • Prescribe and promote certain acceptable and uniform standards of comprehension.
  • Encourage a healthy and constructive competition among the students..
Chitkara follows a system of continuous evaluation. Throughout the term, the student will be tested on his / her ability to understand concepts, learn techniques and apply them to problems in the real world. At each stage of the course, the student would be in a position to assess his / her performance and take measures to improve.

Academic framework for 2-year MBA

Program Duration and Credits
MBA would be 2-year full time classroom program having 7 terms of 3months duration each. Each course will involve 6 hours of teaching every day from Monday to Saturday followed by 2 hours of group exercises every day. Each course will then enable a student to earn 2 credits.
