CHITKARA MANDI - an annual event of Chitkara Business School

The new spirit and perspective of Indian entrepreneurship is under focus in the world market. Chitkara Business School aims at fostering innovation-driven education. A real time project titled “Chitkara Mandi” was assigned to the students of MBA Chitkara Business School to gain real time exposure of managing business and activities related to identifying the products, procurement, material handling, setting up displays, selling, promotion etc. The students set up Chitkara Mandi at DT Mall, Chandigarh that offered several ranges of the products for walk in customers of the Mall. This project was initiated to trigger new innovations and catalyze entrepreneurial spirit. It was time where students displayed boundless energy to go through the daily grind of classes and quizzes and placements, and yet organise and participate in something that kept them on their toes the rest of their waking hours and push them to the end of their tether to really do manage to learn something from all that rigmarole.
Street Plays

Effective communication and good presentation play key roles in a MBA program. Chitkara University in association with EVAM, a Chennai based firm initiated this activity of
developing the communication of the students through English Plays. Students were divided into different groups & were made to present street plays in front of the general
public. The students performed at major tourist places of Chandigarh like Rock Garden, Sukhna Lake and Sector 17 Shopping Plaza. The students had to choose the situation,
write their own script, and enact the play. This exercise is practiced every year to improve the communication, team work and spoken language of the students. It also proves
extremely effective in removing their hesitations and shyness.
EVENT MANAGEMENT
JALSA was an event organized by the national daily newspaper, Dainik Bhaskar in association with NIIFD and Chitkara University. The students of MBA provided event
management support for 16 different categories of literary, fine arts and cultural events. This function went on for four days in which students from 75 colleges of North India
participated. The MBA students of CBS managed the entire event and received great applause from the organizers.
RETAIL SIMULATION

MBA program at Chitkara Business School is full of practical
orientation and real time exposure of the business world for its students. To exemplify, students organized retail simulation exercise at the campus for having real feel of new
trends of retailing in India. All of them were made to choose their own category of products and setup their displays at one place to sell them. This exercise gave the students first hand
exposure to the retail world and various concepts of selling & consumer behavior.
STATE PROJECT

Students were allocated different states of India. They required to deliver presentations on the states allocate them. The students wore the traditional dress of those stand presented the features including, economy, demogra geography, culture, society, opportunity, challenges, pertaining to those states. This exercise exposed all of th to multi cultural and multi-linguistic Republic of India.

It was time where students displayed boundless energy to go through the daily grind of classes and quizzes and placements, and yet organise and participate in something that kept them on their toes the rest of their waking hours and push them to the end of their tether to really do manage to learn something from all that rigmarole.

It was fifteen days project taken up by the students for understanding intricacies of the sales world. “This is the first kind of effort ever undertaken by any Business school in the region with an aim to make students of business management more capable in handling the practicalities of business world”. The students tied up with several NGOs, suppliers and manufacturing concerns in and around the region to procure the products. Few of the products offered for customers included joggers, fancy toys, track suits, paintings, handbags, mats, stationery items, sports shoes, sport goods, household decorative, garments, specs, lady accessories, candles, antique goods, cosmetics etc. The project aimed to provide first hand experience of consumer world and feel of sales and marketing tactics to the students.

The students pooled in some amount by themselves and selected the products to be displayed at Chitkara Mandi. The students contacted and developed the customer & supplier contacts to raise profit through this effort. The students were encouraged to participate in such activities so as to promote sense of entrepreneurship among them and making them understand the inside out of running business & relating theories of business management in the practical world.
