Dr. Madhu Chitkara, Vice-Chancellor, Chitkara University, Punjab
Dr. Madhu Chitkara is one of the co-founders of Chitkara Educational Trust, an organization of great repute & distinction in the field of education. An eminent academician and an innovative entrepreneur, she articulated and designed the road map for the Trust and has actively contributed to its tremendous growth and recognition in all these years.
With a passion for academics and great business acumen, she has had a diversified career & variegated experience in the field of education spanning 35 years. She is highly knowledgeable, focused, a strategic leader and has a passion for excellence. She has adeptly managed numerous academic ventures and remains a true leader who leads by example, is warm, sincere and always willing to walk the extra mile to deliver on promises.
Dr. Madhu Chitkara acquired her B.Sc degree in Mathematics (Honors) from Maitrey College for Women, Delhi and then proceeded to complete B.Ed and M.Ed from Panjab University, Chandigarh in 1976 and 1977 respectively. She has completed M.Sc in Mathematics (1980) and Ph.D (1984) also from Panjab University, Chandigarh.
Pursuing her teaching career with great vigor and sincerity, she brought about several ideas and innovative techniques to the art of teaching. She worked as a lecturer in Mathematics in various schools and Dev Samaj College, in Chandigarh (1976–2002), inviting praise and recognition & throughout this time, she remained focused and worked tirelessly at creating higher standards of learning. In recognition of her exemplary services, she was honored with State Award for Teachers as a teacher of outstanding merit in the year 1987. In the same year, the visiting premier of England, Margaret Thatcher donated computers to a few schools in Chandigarh and Dr. Madhu Chitkara was the first woman to be trained at TTTI on the BBC Microcomputer Systems, a series of microcomputers and associated peripherals designed and built by Acorn Computers for the BBC Computer Literacy Project. She then proceeded to train others in U.T on this technology. Apart from this, she has also imparted training in CAI (Computer Aided Instruction) as well as National Policy of Education.
In the year 1998 Chitkara Educational Trust was established which is spearheading the movement aimed at bringing about excellence in the field of education.
Dr. Madhu Chitkara has been Instrumental in running the day-to-day affairs of the Trust and plays a key role in policy formulation and implementation. Every year more colleges were established with the aspiration to make a difference to the prevailing educational scenario.
Dr. Madhu Chitkara has varied interests but her primary field of work remains Applied Mathematics, Architecture, and Educational Technologies. She is a highly focused thorough professional with a logical bend of mind. With a proclivity towards reading she has read innumerable books on variegated topics and is widely travelled across the globe. In November 2008, she along with a few of her key team members visited various Top Universities of the US with the intention of bringing about a massive change in the way education is viewed in the Nation. This prolific visit had a one point agenda to imbibe and assimilate the best available practices of the western education scenario and to initiate a more progressive educational environment. Soon after this visit she was invited to attend The Clinton Global Initiative in Hong Kong (Dec 2008) with an opportunity to interact with Asia’s most influential leaders and to deal with the region’s most pressing issues.
Dr. Madhu Chitkara is an epitome of patience, perseverance and precision. She has to her name the credit of contributing 25 research papers in various journals. For her endeavors, Dr. Madhu Chitkara has been felicitated with

With new fields of knowledge emerging, Dr. Madhu Chitkara aims to venture into the arena of patents. She has a strong preference for working towards creation of knowledge in specific areas. She is creating avenues to bridge the gap between the industry and academia by incorporating more application based courses wherein both the Universities can provide the companies with students who are ready to take on the responsibilities endowed upon them.

DR. RAJNISH SHARMA, DEAN ACADEMICS
Having completed his research work at National Physical Laboratory, New Delhi and obtaining his Ph.D. in Electronic Science from Kurukshetra University in 2002, Dr. Rajnish Sharma served Birla Institute of Technology and Science (BITS), Pilani for almost 6 years of duration. At BITS, along with teaching, he handled a large number of academic and administrative responsibilities likewise holding position of Secretary, Birla Institutions Community Center (BICC, Pilani), Warden, Bhagirath Bhawan, Incharge, Test Scheduling and President, BITS Staff Association etc. He also co convened two national level workshops for academicians and industry professionals sponsored by DST, CSIR, AICTE, IEEE and Genesis Microchip as well during his tenure at BITS in year 2005 and 2006 respectively.
His main area of research and teaching has been oriented towards electronic devices and possible exploration of technology for further scaling of MOS devices. In totality, he has got 12 years of teaching and research experience. He has got 14 research papers in International and national journals and conferences along with one book by Oxford University Press to his credit. He has presented a part of his research work at Materials Research Society Symposium held at San Francisco, CA, USA in March, 2005 and also at Risoe National Laboratory, Roskilde, Denmark. Currently, he is also handling a research project sanctioned by Ministry of Science and Technology, Government of India. In past, he has been a member of professional societies like IEEE, Materials Research Society (MRS), USA, ISTE and Indian Carbon Society.
With an ardent desire to excel in academics and to make a commendable contribution towards education, he has been guiding students for their right career paths and enjoys each and every element of responsibility assigned to him. He believes in giving more than 100 % to any tasks the he undertakes and always strives hard to achieve excellence. A strong believer of the fact that, “A Teacher’s task is not only to teach students, but also to make them extremely useful citizens of this society”, he owes a lot of this kind of sense developed in him to his great teachers only.
He has been instrumental in planning and implementation of a unique kind of academic system at School of Engineering and Technology.
Dr. Archana Mantri, Pro-Vice-Chancellor, Chitkara University, Punjab
Dr. Archana Mantri, the Pro-Vice-Chancellor of Chitkara University, Punjab, is a doctorate in Electronics and Communication Engineering. She did her post graduation in 1998, in Digital
Communication from NIT, Bhopal and B.E in Electronics and Communication Engineering in the year 1989 from Madhav Institute of Technology and Science, Gwalior.
At Chitkara University, she is instrumental in framing academic policies of the University. Under her dynamic vision to develop the students’ personality for a multidimensional pursuit, she has taken multitudes of measures such as initiating Industry Oriented Hand – On Courses (IOHC), and Problem & Project Based Learning (PBL) approaches.
She envisioned and founded the Faculty - Entrepreneur Development Cell (FEDC), which has an objective of making each faculty an entrepreneur, wherein he/she is motivated to work as CEO of a small company within the academic organization. The faculty now strives to attract projects and grants for the development of the Institute. She launched an initiative CAS – Community-Action-Service to bring the projects, pursued by the students at pre final and final year levels, under its umbrella. It has given a constructive meaning to the large number of man hours invested in these projects across engineering programs. Several such projects have won deep appreciation with recognition coming from institutions like IISc. Bangalore.
Her research in the area of “Problem Based Learning” has given a new direction to the field of Higher Technical Education in Chitkara and has earned accolades from the industry. Her work has received recognition and appreciation from various top Universities of the world including Mc Master University in Canada and University of Massachusetts, USA. She has numerous national and international publications to her credit reflecting her research on the subject. She was instrumental in weaving Problem and Project Based Learning in Traditional pedagogy (most prevalent in the Engineering Education, in India), thus giving a different dimension to the face of Engineering Education in the country. With some very outstanding measured results her work has immediately put the University and the region on International scene. Chitkara Institute of Engineering and Technology is now one of the few in the country delivering higher technical education using Problem and Project Based Learning.
She started her career with Optel Telecommunications Limited (OTL), Bhopal - the pioneers of Optical Fiber Communication in India. At OTL, she was honoured with Outstanding Performance Award from amongst 800 employees, in recognition of her talent; penchant for innovation and time bound efforts in indigenizing a critical design of Japanese OPTIMUX.
During her 8 years stint at OTL, she successfully led her team, which also designed and developed the very first Fibre Optic Terminal Equipment (OLTE) for the Indian Army. This 2/8 Mb OLTE Project was subjected to very stringent field trials by the Signals Team of 21 Corps of the Indian Army before being finally approved for induction in to service.
While working in OTL, she simultaneously completed her post graduation (M. Tech.) in Digital Communications from National Institute of Technology, the erstwhile - Maulana Azad College of Technology (MACT), Bhopal, in 1998 and was awarded the coveted gold medal. She has also topped the MP PSC (MP Public Service Commission) examination conducted for recruitment of faculty in Government Engineering Colleges.
With an ideal blend of experience in Industry and academics, she has persistently aimed and worked to improve the quality of education on all fronts. From Theory to Practice, from Traditional to Innovative, from an Educator to a Motivator, from a Teacher to a Facilitator, she has actively shown new path breaking ways to her faculty and students. A true believer in the vision of the founders of the Chitkara Educational Trust, she has organized many National and International Conferences and some very effective training programs for the faculty and students of the region. She gave up a lucrative career in the Industry to devote herself to uplift the standards of higher education in the country.

Wing Commander (Retired) R. S. Gill, Vice President (University Affairs)
As Vice President (University Affairs) at Chitkara University, Wg Cdr Gill supports and advises on the development, implementation and evaluation of the aims and objectives of the organization and leads a full centralized administrative support service at the campus. He ensures that the organization’s resources are effectively monitored, controlled and utilized. He is instrumental in building and maintaining excellent working relationships with the Corporate/ Central and Learning Support Services and with other academic departments all across the campus which houses six Institutes under the University/Campus. He provides professional advice to the deans of all the institutions at the campus on matters of administration, constitution, governance, strategy, commercial aspects, international initiatives, and policy documents Above all he has championed the best management practices through personal example and leadership. He has proposed changes and developments that are rigorous, prudent and able to exploit available opportunities. With a strong commitment and capacity for motivating both the staff and the students he is the unquestioned leadership figure for the overall administrative process.
An Aeronautical Engineer by profession, he served in the armed forces for over 30 years. He has been conferred with many awards, viz. President’s Plaque for being Best All Round Officer, Chief of Air Staff medal for best academic performance and also received special commendations from Air Officers commanding in Chief on many occasions. As engineer in the Air Force establishments, his technical acumen in maintaining and repairing all kinds of fighter planes was well known and appreciated. His innovative instincts played a key role in framing quality policies designing curricula and deciding evaluation strategy of the Training Operations. As Technical Member of accidents investigation team, investigating serious aircraft accidents, he has always been able to reach the root cause of the problem, thus suggesting improvements in the design of Airborne Equipment to OEM and improved maintenance practices for operators. All this resulted in improving flight safety and saved expensive equipment as well as precious lives. As a quality conscious engineer, he designed and fabricated a number of test rigs, which essentially helped checking operating parameters of aircraft systems, enhancing the reliability of operations on one hand, and working as import substitution on the other. He has numerous published works such as Effect of Storage Conditions on Explosives Efficiency, Fuel Discipline, Mobile Power Plants, Inventory Management and Wreckage Inspection etc. His areas of interest are Academic Administration, Power Management and Renewable Energy Sources. Traveled far and wide, he carries with him vast experience in the field of Environmental Sciences, Power Generation Systems and Management, Refrigeration & Air Conditioning and Aeronautics.
Dr. S.C. Sharma, Registrar, Chitkara University, Punjab
Dr. S.C. Sharma is the Registrar for Chitkara University, Punjab. Being at the distinguished position and having an influential reputation, he supervises the tasks like registration requests, framing the rules for the admissions and discharges, scheduling and maintaining of the permanent records of grades, marks and lists of classes.
In conjunction with his long illustrious career of 15 years in teaching and industrial research, he has been accumulating distinguished experience in our organization since 2002. Acquiring the Doctorate of Chemistry as his personal asset, Dr. Sharma is a veteran in Analytical Chemistry/Inorganic Chemistry. Being an erudite individual, he has conceptualized eight publications worldwide.
Apart from his position of a Registrar he has dynamically arranged an assortment of seminars, conferences and workshops. A hard core academician, a competent administrator, he is recognized for his knowledge, interpersonal relationships and managerial dexterity.
Dr. Varinder Singh Kanwar, Registrar, Chitkara University, Himachal Pradesh
With a PhD in Civil Engineering and M.E. in Structural Engineering from Thapar University, Patiala, Dr. Varinder S. Kanwar carries more than 15 years of Research; Teaching and Administrative Experience. He has worked with institutes like NIT Hamirpur, Government Polytechnic, Hamirpur, Thapar University Patiala and Punjab Technical University, Jalandhar. He also has more than 10 research papers in National and International Journals to his credit and about 25 research papers in conferences. He has already guided various ME student's Thesis work and continues to provide guidance to PhD and ME/M Tech students in the area of Civil Engineering. He is an active member of various societies like ASCE, Indian Concrete Institute [ICI], Institution of Engineers and Punjab Science Congress.
BRIG (DR.) RS GREWAL, VSM (Retd.), VICE-CHANCELLOR
Brig (Dr.) RS Grewal joined the National Defence Academy in 1963 and was commissioned in to the Corps of Engineers of the Indian Army in 1967. After retiring from the Army in 2002 he joined the Manipal Group. His more than 40 years of service includes proven track record of managing training institutions both in the Army and in the Universities. He has been the Director of Sikkim Manipal Institute of Technology. Later he was the Pro-Vice-Chancellor of Sikkim Manipal University and also the first Director of ICICI Manipal Academy.
He was also the member of the Academic Senate and the Governing Council of Sikkim Manipal Unversity of Health, Medical and Technological Sciences. Whilst in the Army, he was head of a 5500 strong technical training establishment and was also Head of Faculty of Civil Engineering at the College of Military Engineering, Pune. He was a member of faculty at the prestigious Defence Services Staff College, Wellington. He has been recognized as a guide for PhD level studies by the University of Madras.
Brig Grewal has been the Chief Engineer of a Project in the prestigious Border Roads Organisation in eastern India in a terrain that is considered a logisticians nightmare. His services were recognized by the President of India by the award of coveted Vishisht Sewa Medal.
He has attended the prestigious national strategy course at National Defence College, New Delhi wherein only competitively selected Brigadiers or equivalent from other armed forces, IAS, IFS, IPS and other central government services are nominated. The course deals with macro level issues pertaining to strategy at national level.
A prolific writer, he has contributed articles on topics related to national security, socio economic issues and on human resource development to reputed journals.
He has been the treasurer of Equestrian Federation of India. He has a flair for languages and can read, write and speak Tamil and has studied Burmese. He hails from a traditional Army family and is a fourth-generation army officer.
C.M.Bhan, Director cum Principal
C. M. Bhan is a Graduate in Hotel Management, Trained at Chef. John Folse Culinary Institute, Louisiana USA and at Padvoa University, Italy. An alumni of IHM Pusa (Delhi) he has 15 Years of Industrial and 26 years of teaching experience.
