About Fortis Hospital Group
 A Brief Background
Fortis Healthcare Limited, the fastest growing and India's second largest healthcare provider was incorporated in 1996. The company was founded by the visionary business leader, Late Dr. Parvinder Singh, the architect of Ranbaxy Laboratories.

Fortis is a manifestation of Dr. Singh's ideology “to create a world-class integrated healthcare delivery system in India, entailing the finest medical skills combined with compassionate patient care”. The company's vision is to be a globally respected healthcare organization known for clinical excellence and distinctive patient care. The company's mission to deliver quality healthcare focuses on drivers such as clinical excellence, technology, research and patient care.

Starting with its first hospital which opened in 2001,Fortis Healthcare Ltd. now is a network of over 68 hospitals in 7 countries with over 12000 beds. These hospitals include multi specialty hospitals as well as super-specialty centers providing comprehensive tertiary and quaternary healthcare to patients across specialties such as cardiac care, orthopedics, neurosciences, oncology, renal care, gastroenterology, mother and child care .

Fortis has been rapidly growing through a combination of acquisitions, greenfields, brownfields and management contracts. In addition there are two hospitals in the company which are run in a public private partnership framework. Recently, Fortis created history in the Indian Healthcare Sector by acquiring 10 hospitals from Wockhardt, including two under construction, giving it a strong pan India presence. This deal is the largest ever in the Indian healthcare space. The previous biggest deal in the Indian Healthcare Sector was the acquisition of the five Escorts Heart Institute & Research Ltd. Hospitals in 2005, also by Fortis. To match this stupendous growth, the company's employee strength across the network has increased to over 10000.

In January 2009, Fortis announced its first international foray. Jointly with its Mauritius based local partner, the company acquired majority stake in leading private hospital, 'Clinique Darne'. Rechristened as 'Fortis Clinique Darné', the hospital is one of the most modern medical centres in Mauritius -- combining the traditions of dedicated personal care with hi-tech facilities and offering wide range of general and specialized medical services in a caring and friendly environment.

 Operating Model
Fortis operates on a hub and spoke model to provide Super Specialty, Multi Specialty and Tertiary level medical care. Hubs are the super specialty hospitals and spokes are the multi specialty centers. Patients who have the need are referred to these hubs from the multi specialty facilities in the region. By embracing this system the patient benefits from the many available network facilities

 Quality Focus and Accreditations
Fortis Healthcare has been at the forefront of providing quality healthcare services and has raised the bar of quality standards in the country. The hospitals employ renowned medical talent at par with the best in the world. Some of these doctors are American Board Certified. Due to their excellent quality care and safety for patients, three Fortis Hospitals have received the highly respected JCI accreditation (Joint Commission International). JCI is the largest accreditor of healthcare organizations in the United States. In addition to this, six Fortis hospitals have received NABH accreditation, the highest national recognition for quality patient care and safety. These include hospitals in Noida, Jaipur, Mohali, Vasant Kunj, New Delhi and Escorts Heart Institute in New Delhi and Faridabad. Blood Banks at Fortis Hospital Noida and Escorts Heart Institute and Fortis Flt. Lt. Rajan Dhall Hospital, Vasant Kunj have also been awarded NABH accreditation by Quality Council of India. The laboratories at the hospitals in Cunninghan Road , Bengaluru and Mulund in Mumbai are also NABL accredited.

Patient Centricity with excellence in medical delivery, empathy, care and compassion are the guiding principles at Fortis. This is reflected in every aspect of the company beginning from hospital architecture, processes, larger than average bed-to-floor space ratio, nurse to patient ratio, front office staff to name a few. For its patient centric design, Fortis Hospital, Mohali, has been awarded the American Institute of Architecture Award, for the best hospital design.

 Standardized Operating System
To standardize non-clinical processes which impact patient experience during their stay at any of the group's hospitals, Fortis has a standardized operating system called FOS (Fortis Operating System). This ensures that patients experience similar service levels irrespective of the hospital they visit within the group. FOS was conceived and implemented with the objective to increase efficiency in non clinical processes leading to enhanced patient satisfaction in various departments such as OPDs, PHCs, OTs, Emergency, Radiology etc.

The company's HIS (Hospital Information System) incorporates an Electronic Patient Record (EPR) or Picture Archiving & Communication System facilitating quick access to patient information and consequently speedier diagnosis. The seamless HIS allows patient consults at any facility with access to patients reports online.
